What I've done instead is, for any recurring event that isn't really due on that date, like "book a haircut" or "fertilize roses", I add an event on a Google Calendar called "Tickler" with the desired recurrence. I then have an IFTTT (https://ifttt.com/explore) integration that creates a Todoist event in my inbox whenever that event shows up on my calendar. Slack has a feature to schedule messages, also a bunch of bots that do various scheduling tasks… Also you could use a email marketing tool like Mailchimp that could allow you scheduling Mails far a head. But any service you choose should be around somewhat longterm right? It will probably require some money and a bit of luck for the service or app of choice to stay around for a while. I don't use a 'method'. I use a timer for stuff I don't want to do. I use timer-tab.com A LOT and I also have one of those visual timers. I don't use it all day, and I don't use it for everything. If I need to do something that is boring as hell, like some routine thing for my job, I just set the timer for 10 or 20 minutes. That's it. There is no point in making it complicated. Timer-tab.com is also great, though you can't embed it in a PPT (at least not easily) - you can set any amount of time, the time will fit your window (great if you need to split the screen), and you can set the background and alarm sound.
