Some advanced features which users might expect, such as robust tagging or categorization options, may not be as developed as in other annotation tools.
  • Reliance on Platform Stability
As with any web-based service, Hypothes.isโ€™s usability is dependent on the platform's stability and updates, which can occasionally lead to downtime or bugs.

  • Low visibility and community
SimpleX is a relatively niche tool with a small user base, which means limited community support, fewer tutorials, and less peer feedback compared to more established decision-making platforms.
  • Potential oversimplification
For complex decisions involving many interdependent variables, the simplified framework may not adequately capture nuances, dependencies, or non-linear relationships between criteria.
  • Limited collaboration features
The tool may lack robust collaboration capabilities for team-based decision-making, such as real-time co-editing, role-based access, or voting mechanisms for group consensus.
  • No offline functionality
Being a web-based tool, SimpleX requires an internet connection to function, which can be a limitation in situations where connectivity is unreliable or unavailable.

  • Sioyek is a PDF viewer with a focus on textbooks and research papers
Hypothesis https://web.hypothes.is/ is pretty good at keeping notes on PDF. Normally it anchors the annotations for any url but I believe that for PDF is also doing some extra checksum magic to uniquely identify the PDF and apply the annotations. Furthermore you can have collaboration features such as group annotations. Useful for classes or science labs... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • What happened to the idea of having a comment section for each webpage?
Tools like https://web.hypothes.is exist and have a decent number of installs. The hard part of a generic third-party commenting tool is creating the right social context for it to actually be useful. Hypothesis for example is mostly used via its integration into online learning platforms, where that context already exists. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Browser extensions are underrated: the promise of hackable software
I honestly can't imagine not using extensions. Like, if there were no extensions I don't think I'd care at all if I used Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc. But Chrome and Firefox have this massive, massive ecosystem of productitivy improving extensions. I'll give... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
