HyperBabel is a global communication API platform that unifies real-time chat, video calling, live streaming, and AI translation under a single API key.
Instead of integrating and paying for four or five separate vendors, developers get one SDK, one dashboard, and one predictable bill. Chat ships with 1:1, group, and open rooms โ typing indicators, read receipts, moderation, and message pinning included. Video is WebRTC-based with HD/FHD multi-party rooms. Live streaming broadcasts one-to-many to thousands of viewers at sub-second latency. AI translation runs inline across 100+ languages, built into the chat and live pipelines rather than bolted on as a plugin.
Pricing is flat-rate on concurrent connections โ no MAU billing, no per-message egress fees. A free forever tier covers prototyping; paid plans run $99 (Starter), $499 (Pro), and $1,999 (Business), with custom Enterprise. SDKs cover JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, and React Native. Infrastructure is GDPR-compliant and EU-primary, with a 99.9% uptime SLA and p50 global latency under 65ms.

AppWriteAppWrite is recommended for developers building applications who require a scalable backend solution without the overhead of managing infrastructure. It is particularly suited for developers who prefer open-source platforms and those who want to avoid vendor lock-in. AppWrite's features make it a good fit for startups, hobby projects, and even educational purposes where full control over the backend is desirable.
HyperBabel's answer
HyperBabel is the only communication API that delivers real-time chat, video calling, live streaming, and AI translation behind a single API key. Most teams assemble these from four or five separate vendors, each with its own SDK, dashboard, and bill. HyperBabel replaces that stack with one SDK, one dashboard, and one predictable bill. AI translation across 100+ languages runs inline in the message and live pipelines โ not as a bolted-on plugin. Pricing is flat-rate on concurrent connections: no MAU billing, no per-message egress fees.
HyperBabel's answer
Three reasons. Scope: chat, video, live streaming, AI translation, and file storage come in one API instead of being split across SendBird, Twilio, Stream, and others. Pricing predictability: HyperBabel bills a flat rate on concurrent connections โ no MAU metering (unlike SendBird or CometChat), no per-read/write fan-out cost (unlike Firebase), and no per-GB egress fees (unlike Twilio). Built-in AI translation: real-time translation across 100+ languages is native to the pipeline, not a separate integration. One SDK covers JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, and React Native, and a free forever tier lets teams start at no cost.
HyperBabel's answer
HyperBabel is built for developers and product teams adding real-time communication to their apps without managing a multi-vendor stack. Typical users build social apps, EdTech and telehealth platforms, live commerce, in-game chat, and enterprise collaboration tools. It fits startups that want predictable pricing as they scale, and engineering teams replacing a fragmented chat, video, and translation setup with a single API.
HyperBabel's answer
HyperBabel exposes a REST API documented with OpenAPI 3.0, with official SDKs for JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, and React Native. Video and live streaming are built on WebRTC. The platform runs on a globally distributed edge architecture for low-latency real-time delivery, with p50 global latency under 65ms. Security uses JWT-based authentication, SHA-256 hashed API keys, and HMAC-SHA256 signed webhooks.
HyperBabel's answer
HyperBabel grew out of a recurring frustration: shipping real-time communication meant stitching together a chat vendor, a video vendor, a translation service, and a storage provider โ each with its own SDK, dashboard, billing model, and failure modes. The result was unpredictable costs and brittle integrations. HyperBabel was built to collapse that stack into a single API and a single bill, with AI translation across 100+ languages built in from the start, so any team can ship multilingual chat, video, and live streaming in minutes instead of months.
I've use it instead of Firebase on a 15$ DigitalOcean droplet and saved around ~$150 a month. Managing my own infra does take some extra time, but definitely worth it. The APIs and SDK are also surprisingly much easier to consume than Firebase. Waiting for the cloud version.

Initially, I was using the Supabase free tier, but I was hitting the limits, and my app was becoming stale. Then I switched to Appwrite. Both are totally different; one is SQL, while the latter one is NoSQL. Although use node-appwrite package to skip the manual schema add-ons. - Source: dev.to / 6 months ago
