Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

Heroku 6 features
LessCMS.io 12 features
  • Ease of Use
Heroku offers an extremely user-friendly interface and a high level of abstraction, making it easy for developers to deploy, manage, and scale applications without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.
  • Quick Deployment
One of Heroku’s strongest points is the ability to deploy applications quickly using Git. Developers can push their code to Heroku with a simple command, streamlining the entire process.
  • Scalability
Heroku provides effortless scaling options by allowing developers to add more dynos (containers) with a single command to handle increased traffic and workload.
  • Add-Ons Ecosystem
Heroku offers a rich ecosystem of add-ons, such as databases, caching, monitoring, and more, which can be easily integrated into applications to extend their functionality.
  • Automatic Updates
Heroku automatically handles operating system and server updates, allowing developers to focus solely on their application code rather than maintenance tasks.
  • Free Tier
Heroku offers a free tier with sufficient resources to host small projects and learn the platform without incurring costs, making it accessible for beginners and small-scale applications.

Possible disadvantages

  • Cost
While Heroku offers a free tier, the costs can quickly add up for larger applications and professional use. Paid plans and additional dynos or add-ons can become expensive.
  • Performance
Heroku’s performance can sometimes be suboptimal compared to other cloud providers, particularly when running high-performance or resource-intensive applications.
  • Limited Control
Heroku abstracts away a lot of infrastructure management, which can be a downside for developers who need fine-grained control over their environments and configurations.
  • Dyno Sleeping
Applications running on Heroku’s free tier experience 'dyno sleeping,' where the application goes to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity, causing a delay when it wakes up after receiving a new request.
  • Vendor Lock-In
Relying heavily on Heroku’s ecosystem and platform-specific features can lead to vendor lock-in, making it challenging to migrate to another platform if needed.
  • Add-On Costs
The costs for add-ons can also become significant, as many useful features and integrations require paid add-ons, increasing the overall expense.
  • Visual page editor
Drag-and-drop editor with lots of widgets and separate desktop, tablet and phone settings — no CSS needed
  • Headless CMS
Read-only content API with per-project keys and Swagger docs — use with Nuxt, Next.js or any front end
  • Collections

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Heroku and LessCMS.io.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

LessCMS.io's answer:

  • Largest single client workspace: 52 pages

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

LessCMS.io's answer:

PHP, Vue 3, Nuxt, Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, Cloudflare (CDN, Workers, Turnstile), OpenAI API.

What makes your product unique?

LessCMS.io's answer:

LessCMS is both a visual website builder and a headless CMS in one product. The same project can be a finished website on your own domain — edited with a drag-and-drop editor — or a content backend for your own Nuxt or Next.js front end via API. Multilingual content, AI translation, SEO, forms and cookie consent are built in, so there are no plugins to install, update or secure.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

LessCMS.io's answer:

Compared to WordPress: no plugins, no updates, no security patches — everything important is built in and hosted for you. Compared to Wix or Webflow: your content is also available through a headless API, and multilingual sites with AI translation are included instead of being expensive add-ons. Compared to Strapi or Contentful: non-technical editors get a real visual page editor, not just forms. Pricing starts with a free plan and flat monthly fees with no setup costs or long-term contracts.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

LessCMS.io's answer:

Web agencies and freelancers who build websites for clients and want to hand over a CMS that clients can edit themselves without breaking anything. Small and mid-sized businesses that want a fast, multilingual company website without maintaining WordPress. Developers who need a headless CMS with a visual editor for their Nuxt or Next.js projects.

What's the story behind your product?

LessCMS.io's answer:

LessCMS was built by Softmasters, a software house from Bielsko-Biała, Poland. After years of building and maintaining client websites on WordPress, we were tired of plugin updates, security patches and clients breaking layouts. We built LessCMS as the tool we wanted ourselves: a visual editor clients can safely use, a headless API for developers, and everything important built in. It is part of the LessTools family, together with LessCommerce for e-commerce and LessSEO.
