Possible disadvantages of Harvest

  • Cost
Harvest's pricing can be relatively high for small businesses or freelancers, especially when additional features or seats are needed.
  • Limited Mobile Functionality
While Harvest does have mobile apps, they are not as fully featured as the desktop version, which can limit usability for those who need to manage tasks on the go.
  • Manual Time Entry
The process of manually entering time can be cumbersome for some users, especially in scenarios where automatic time tracking would be more efficient.
  • Learning Curve for Advanced Features
Although the basic functionality is easy to use, there can be a learning curve when it comes to mastering more advanced features and reporting tools.
  • Limited Customization
Harvest offers limited options for customization in terms of the user interface and report formats, which can be a drawback for users who need tailored solutions.

  • Accountability Partners
The platform may allow users to involve friends or accountability partners in their financial commitments, adding a social motivation layer that can further encourage goal completion.

Possible disadvantages of CashCommit

  • Risk of Losing Money
Users stand to lose their committed funds if they fail to meet their goals, which could be financially harmful, especially for those already struggling with money management.
  • Limited Awareness
CashCommit is a relatively niche platform that may not be widely known or reviewed, making it harder for potential users to find trusted feedback or community support.
  • Stress and Pressure
The financial penalty model can create anxiety and stress, which may be counterproductive for some users who don't respond well to punishment-based motivation systems.
  • Not Suitable for Everyone
People with irregular incomes, financial hardships, or those prone to gambling-like behaviors may find the commitment model risky or inappropriate for their financial situation.
  • Unclear Dispute Resolution
As a smaller platform, there may be limited transparency around what happens in edge cases โ€” such as technical errors, disputes, or extenuating circumstances that prevent goal completion โ€” leaving users potentially without recourse.

  • What do you guys for invoicing outside Upwork?
I use getharvest.com to track hourly and convert them to invoice. The only thing I don't like is that I have to add the task in the web dashboard rather than entering directly in the desktop app. There is 'note' field, but it won't show up in the invoice detail, so it is useless for me.
