  • What do you guys for invoicing outside Upwork?
I use getharvest.com to track hourly and convert them to invoice. The only thing I don't like is that I have to add the task in the web dashboard rather than entering directly in the desktop app. There is 'note' field, but it won't show up in the invoice detail, so it is useless for me. • Harvest Time Tracking Alternative
The last time there was a robust conversation about this question was a little over a year ago, but I have to imagine that today there are lots of self-hosted alternatives to Harvest for time tracking. Yet, most of the open source self-hosted alternatives that I am seeing are either full-blown project management suites or fairly outdated timesheet tools. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Project Management Software
Have a look at Harvest (getharvest.com). It's a good fit for small agencies like yours. Hi there. I made an app to managing things along these lines. Itโ€™s called fuss. It helps to organize projects, and prioritizes things automatically based on the impact effort model. Which allows you to both organize tasks, and create time entries in Harvest for invoice from a single app. Source: over 4 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of Harvest

Harvest Software, widely recognized in the industry for its robust time tracking, invoicing, and employee timesheet functionalities, has garnered significant attention from various professional circles. Positioned alongside competitors such as Toggl, RescueTime, TimeCamp, Time Doctor, and others, Harvest distinguishes itself with a broad array of features and integrations that facilitate seamless project management and financial tracking.

A recurring theme in discussions about Harvest is its ease of use and straightforward setup. Many users appreciate its intuitive interface, where setting up and administering time-tracking tasks is reported to be almost painless. This user-friendliness is particularly beneficial for teams previously struggling with more cumbersome tracking solutions, enabling them to quickly and effectively switch to Harvest.

Moreover, Harvest offers extensive integration capabilities with key project management and accounting tools like Asana, Trello, Basecamp, QuickBooks, Slack, Xero, and Stripe. These integrations are lauded for enhancing workflow efficiency by allowing users to track hours directly from these platforms, thereby centralizing time management and billing processes. Some discussions also highlight Harvestโ€™s synergy with its sister application, Forecast, which utilizes predictive analysis to optimize project timelines and resource allocation, potentially averting project failures due to mismanagement.

On the financial front, Harvest's invoicing capabilities are well-received, with users praising its ability to convert tracked billable hours and expenses into precise, professional invoices. The platform's compatibility with payment gateways like Stripe and PayPal further streamlines the process, facilitating prompt client transactions. Additionally, Harvestโ€™s pricing model, starting at $12 per user per month, is noted for its competitiveness, with various discounts available for long-term commitments and non-profit organizations.

Despite its many advantages, Harvest is not without its criticisms. Some users express concerns about its functionality when used as standalone desktop software, particularly for Mac OS, where its effectiveness relies on integrations. Moreover, the software's static design and manual timesheet entries have prompted some to seek alternatives that offer more flexibility and automation. The need for additional setup work compared to certain alternatives is also mentioned, alongside issues with fully reliable third-party integrations.

In summary, public opinion of Harvest suggests that it is a robust, reliable choice for teams seeking an easy-to-use time tracking and invoicing system with strong integration capabilities. While it excels in making time management streamlined and efficient, potential users may need to weigh these advantages against setup complexity and design limitations to determine its fit for their specific needs. Nonetheless, its satisfaction among users who have adopted and integrated it into their workflows speaks to its significant efficacy and utility in professional settings.
