Graftit is a Windows desktop app built for UK sole traders and freelancers. It combines time tracking with a live timer, HMRC AMAP mileage logging with automatic 45p/25p threshold tracking, expense management with receipt capture, and professional PDF invoicing — all in one place, at a fraction of the cost of cloud accounting software.

Unlike browser-based tools, Graftit stores all data locally on your device. Your financial records never touch Graftit's servers. Optional sync to your own OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive keeps data backed up without a cloud subscription.

Graftit connects directly to Xero via live OAuth sync — invoices, expenses, and mileage push to your Xero account automatically. Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax quarterly exports are built in, with direct HMRC submission in progress.

Analysis of Graftit

Overall verdict

  • Graftit (graftit.co.uk) appears to be a UK-based online platform connecting tradespeople and skilled workers with job opportunities, though I don't have verified, up-to-date information confirming its current operational status, user satisfaction, or business legitimacy. I'd recommend independently verifying the site is active, checking recent reviews on Trustpilot or Google, and confirming its registration before relying on it for business or job-seeking purposes.

Why this product is good

  • Positioned as a niche platform for skilled trades and manual labour job matching in the UK
  • May offer a simpler, more direct alternative to larger generalist job boards
  • Could provide localized opportunities within the UK market if actively maintained

Recommended for

  • UK tradespeople looking for a specialized job platform
  • Small businesses seeking manual labour or skilled trade workers
  • Users who verify the platform's current legitimacy and activity before use

Analysis of Vim Python IDE

Overall verdict

  • Vim configured as a Python IDE (typically via plugins like coc.nvim, YouCompleteMe, ALE, jedi-vim, or NERDTree combined with configurations found in various GitHub repositories) is a solid choice for developers who value speed, keyboard-driven workflows, and deep customization, though it requires more setup effort than out-of-the-box IDEs like PyCharm or VS Code.

Why this product is good

  • Extremely lightweight and fast, even on older or resource-constrained hardware
  • Highly customizable through plugins (linting, autocompletion, debugging, git integration)
  • Keyboard-centric workflow enables very efficient editing once mastered
  • Works seamlessly over SSH and in terminal-only environments, great for remote server work
  • Free and open-source with a massive ecosystem of community-maintained configs and plugins
  • Consistent editing experience across many languages, not just Python

Recommended for

  • Experienced developers comfortable with the Vim/Neovim modal editing paradigm
  • Users who frequently work in terminal-only or remote/SSH environments
  • Developers who want a minimal, distraction-free coding environment
  • Engineers who enjoy building and maintaining their own custom tooling/config
  • Power users who prioritize speed and efficiency over GUI convenience
  • Those already familiar with Vim motions looking to extend it into a full Python dev environment

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Graftit and Vim Python IDE.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Graftit's answer

Electron, React, TypeScript, and SQLite (via better-sqlite3) for the desktop application. Cloudflare Workers and D1 for the licence server. Xero OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for accounting integration. Azure Document Intelligence and Tesseract.js for receipt OCR.

What's the story behind your product?

Graftit's answer

Having worked across organisations of every size — from small independents to global enterprises — certain truths about good business practice hold at every scale. Clear financial visibility, timely information, and tools that work with you rather than against you aren't luxuries reserved for large teams with dedicated finance departments. UK sole traders and freelancers deserve the same quality of insight into their own business. Graftit exists to give them that — a dedicated platform built specifically for how they work, not a scaled-down version of something designed for a different kind of business entirely. Simple to use, powerful where it matters, and built by someone who genuinely cares about the people using it.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Graftit's answer

UK sole traders and freelancers — particularly consultants, designers, developers, and tradespeople who bill by the hour or by project, track business mileage, and need to submit a Self Assessment tax return. Graftit is designed for people who want to spend less than an hour a week on admin, not people who want a full accounting suite.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Graftit's answer

Three reasons: price, privacy, and purpose-built design. At £10/month it undercuts FreeAgent by over 80% and Xero by over 60%. Unlike every cloud-based competitor, your data stays on your device — no server-side storage, no breach risk, no lock-in. And where most tools are cut-down versions of enterprise accounting software, Graftit is built specifically for UK sole traders and freelancers — the HMRC mileage rates, MTD compliance, and invoice requirements are native, not bolted on.

What makes your product unique?

Graftit's answer

Graftit is the only desktop app in this space that combines time tracking, HMRC AMAP mileage (with automatic 45p/25p threshold tracking), expense management, and PDF invoicing in a single offline-first application. Your financial data never touches Graftit's servers — it lives on your own machine, with optional backup to your own cloud storage. It also includes live two-way Xero sync and Making Tax Digital quarterly exports at a price point significantly below every comparable tool.
