The Git CLI is terrifying and awful. It's far too easy to clobber your own work -- and that of others -- when the whole point of it was to prevent that. While you still need to really deeply understand several git concepts to use it, GitKraken[0] is the best GUI tool I've used in daily practice. I'd recommend against Handbrake. Handbrake is awesome if you need to make H.264 or H.265, but that compounds generation loss going from very lossy to very lossy. I'd strongly recommend using Shutter Encoder to make ProRes or DNxHR instead. It's based on ffmpeg, which is a big part of the underlying functionality of Handbrake too.
