Pop3Fetch is the email-import service Google should have left in Gmail. When Google discontinued the built-in "Check mail from other accounts" feature in 2024, millions of users lost the ability to consolidate Yahoo, Outlook, IONOS, GoDaddy, and other external mailboxes into a single Gmail inbox without setting up forwarding rules that break threading or trigger spam filters.

Pop3Fetch fixes that. It connects to your external accounts over encrypted POP3 or IMAP, fetches new mail on a schedule (down to every 5 minutes on Pro), and delivers each message directly into Gmail through the official Gmail API. Messages arrive with their original headers intact, in the right conversation threads, with no relay servers in between.

The service is zero-storage: messages stream through memory in a single transfer and are dropped the moment Gmail acknowledges delivery. Google CASA Tier 2 verified. AES-256-GCM encryption for stored credentials.

Git features and specs

  • Distributed Version Control
Git is a distributed version control system, meaning every user has a complete local copy of the repository. This offers better redundancy and allows users to work offline.
  • Branching and Merging
Git makes branching and merging processes simple and efficient, allowing users to try out new features, fix bugs, or experiment without affecting the main codebase.
  • Speed
Git operates very quickly because most of its operations are performed locally, making it very swift in comparison to some other version control systems.
  • Flexibility
It is highly flexible, supporting various workflows including centralized, feature-branch, Gitflow, and forking workflows.
  • Open Source
Being an open-source tool, it's free to use, and its source code can be reviewed and modified by anyone as needed.
  • Widely Supported
Git is widely supported by many integrated development environments (IDEs) and collaborative platforms like GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket.
  • Security
Git uses a mechanism of checksums to ensure data integrity, making it very resilient against changes, corruption, and unauthorized alterations.

Possible disadvantages of Git

  • Complexity for Beginners
New users may find Git's command-line interface and concepts like branching, merging, and rebasing to be complex and difficult to learn.
  • Overhead of Local Repositories
Since every user maintains a full copy of the repository, this could lead to higher local storage requirements compared to some other version control systems.
  • Learning Curve
The initial setup and understanding of Git workflows can be challenging, and it requires users to spend some time learning the tool.
  • Potential for Misuse
Powerful features like force push and interactive rebase can lead to significant issues if misused, including loss of history and data.
  • Merge Conflicts
While merging is generally easy, complicated projects with many contributors might experience frequent and difficult-to-resolve merge conflicts.
  • Tool Fragmentation
There are multiple tools and additional software built around Git (GUI clients, integrations, etc.), which can be overwhelming and fragmented for some users.

Pop3Fetch features and specs

  • Direct Gmail API delivery
Emails import through Google's official Gmail API, not SMTP forwarding. Original headers and senders survive intact, no spam-flag risk.
  • IMAP and POP3 support
Works with any external mailbox that speaks POP3 or IMAP โ€” Yahoo, Outlook, IONOS, GoDaddy, Comcast, AOL, and any custom mail server.
  • Conversation threading preserved
Replies group with their originals just like native Gmail. No broken threads from SMTP forwarding workarounds.
  • Google CASA Tier 2 verified
Independent Cloud Application Security Assessment of OAuth scopes, data handling, and incident response โ€” done.
  • AES-256-GCM credential encryption
External mailbox passwords encrypted with bank-grade ciphers before ever touching disk.
  • OAuth 2.0 with write-only Gmail scopes
We never see your Gmail password. Default scope is write-only โ€” Pop3Fetch can add mail to your inbox but can't read what's already there.
  • Zero-storage pass-through
Message bodies and attachments stream from mailbox to Gmail in memory only. Nothing is ever written to disk, indexed, or logged.
  • Per-account Gmail labels (Pro)
Auto-tag every imported message by source โ€” "Yahoo", "Work", "Personal" โ€” so Gmail organizes them instantly.
  • Manual sync on demand (Pro)
Trigger an instant fetch for any account with one click. New mail lands in Gmail in seconds.
  • Connection failure email alerts
The moment a mailbox stops syncing, an email lands in your inbox. Never miss a broken connection.
  • Provider presets
One-click auto-fill for IMAP settings on Yahoo, Outlook, IONOS, GoDaddy, FastMail, iCloud, Hover, Namecheap, DreamHost, Bluehost, Hostinger, Zoho, GMX, and more.
  • Configurable sync intervals
Hourly on Free, every 15 minutes on Basic, every 5 minutes on Pro. Pick the cadence that matches your workflow.
  • One-click revoke and data deletion
and data deletionRevoke Gmail access from your Google account at any time. Cancel your plan and all data โ€” including encrypted credentials โ€” is deleted immediately.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Git and Pop3Fetch.

What makes your product unique?

Pop3Fetch's answer:

Pop3Fetch is the only service that pairs the official Gmail API delivery path with a real productized SaaS. Every alternative in the category is one of three things: a free hobby project (usually POP3-only, no support, no security story), an older commercial forwarding service (SMTP relay, breaks threading, triggers spam filters), or the original Google feature โ€” which no longer exists. Pop3Fetch uses Google's official Gmail API to import mail exactly the way Gmail's own retired fetcher used to, adds IMAP support the old feature never had, and does it with verified security (Google CASA Tier 2, AES-256-GCM credential encryption, zero-storage pass-through).

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Pop3Fetch's answer:

Three reasons. First, delivery method: Pop3Fetch imports through the Gmail API, so original senders and headers arrive intact โ€” no spam-flag risk, no broken conversation threading. Every competitor that uses SMTP forwarding fails on at least one of these. Second, protocol support: both IMAP and POP3 (most alternatives are POP3-only, which excludes Yahoo Mail, iCloud, and any modern provider that deprecated POP3). Third, security posture: Google CASA Tier 2 verified, OAuth 2.0 with write-only scopes by default, AES-256-GCM credential encryption, and a zero-storage architecture where message bodies never touch our database. Bonus: a real freemium pricing model that starts free forever for one account, no credit card required.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Pop3Fetch's answer:

People who used to rely on Gmail's "Check mail from other accounts" feature and lost that workflow when Google retired it. That's mostly small business owners and freelancers consolidating Yahoo, Outlook, IONOS, GoDaddy, and custom-domain mailboxes into Gmail; solo founders and consultants who prefer one Gmail inbox to tab-hopping between webmail interfaces; and anyone who tried Google's recommended SMTP-forwarding workaround and watched it break threading or land legitimate mail in spam. Secondary audience: privacy-conscious users who specifically want the zero-storage pass-through architecture instead of a forwarding service that persists their mail.

What's the story behind your product?

Pop3Fetch's answer:

Google discontinued Gmail's built-in "Check mail from other accounts" (POP3 fetcher) feature after more than a decade of service. Millions of Gmail users โ€” small businesses, freelancers, families with legacy Yahoo or Outlook accounts โ€” lost the workflow that let them consolidate external mailboxes into a single Gmail inbox. Google's suggested replacement (SMTP forwarding rules) breaks conversation threading, gets flagged as spam, and strips authentication headers like SPF and DKIM, meaning legitimate mail routinely lands in the wrong folder or doesn't arrive at all. Pop3Fetch was built specifically to fill that gap, using the official Gmail API to import mail exactly the way Gmail's own retired fetcher did โ€” with all the reliability, security posture, and reach the original feature had, plus IMAP support it never offered.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Pop3Fetch's answer:

Backend: Python and Flask for the web app; a separate Python worker for the background IMAP/POP3 polling. Delivery: Google Gmail API via OAuth 2.0 with write-only scopes by default. External mailbox access: standard IMAP and POP3 over TLS. Credentials: AES-256-GCM encryption. Data store: PostgreSQL. Hosting: Render (application + worker) and Netlify (marketing site). Security posture is validated under Google's CASA Tier 2 program.

  • GitHub, Demystified
One last source of confusion worth clearing up. Git is the version control system itself, the underlying technology that does the change-tracking. GitHub is one popular place to host projects that use Git, and it is not the only one. GitLab and Bitbucket do much the same job. A beginner does not need to evaluate all three.
