Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

git-sizer 5 features
Parsivex 15 features
  • Comprehensive Repository Analysis
git-sizer analyzes many different dimensions of a Git repository including commit count, tree size, blob size, history depth, and reference counts, providing a holistic view of repository health and potential scaling issues.
  • Easy to Use
The tool is simple to run with minimal setup—just execute it within a git repository—and it produces clear, human-readable output that highlights potential problem areas without requiring complex configuration.
  • Identifies Performance Bottlenecks
It helps identify specific issues that could degrade Git performance, such as excessively large blobs, deep history, large trees, or too many references, which is valuable before migrating or scaling repositories.
  • Open Source and Maintained by GitHub
Being an official GitHub project, it benefits from credibility, community trust, and ongoing maintenance, and it is well documented with clear explanations of what each metric means.
  • Useful for Pre-Migration Checks
It's particularly helpful for teams migrating repositories to new platforms or consolidating repos, as it flags potential issues that could cause problems during migration or with hosting providers' limits.

Possible disadvantages

  • No Automatic Remediation
git-sizer only identifies and reports issues but does not offer any built-in tools or automated processes to fix problems like large blobs or excessive history depth—users must use separate tools like BFG Repo-Cleaner or git-filter-repo.
  • Output Can Be Overwhelming for Beginners
While detailed, the output includes many metrics and threshold levels that may be confusing for users unfamiliar with Git internals, requiring some learning curve to fully interpret results.
  • Limited to Local Analysis
The tool analyzes a local clone of the repository, so it requires users to have a full local copy of the repo (or at least enough history) to get accurate results, which can be time-consuming for very large repositories.
  • No Real-Time Monitoring
It functions as a one-time analysis tool rather than providing continuous or real-time monitoring of repository health, requiring manual reruns to track changes over time.
  • Command-Line Only Interface
The tool lacks a graphical user interface, which may be less accessible for users who prefer visual dashboards or are less comfortable with command-line tools.
  • Free AWS waste scan
Connect a read-only IAM role and get a one-time scan with total monthly waste in dollars and a category breakdown. No credit card.
  • Read-only, least-privilege access
Parsivex only reads billing and resource metadata via a scoped IAM role (CloudFormation or Terraform); it never modifies your AWS account.
  • Guided 10-minute setup
Step-by-step IAM role onboarding gets you from signup to first scan in about ten minutes.
  • Multi-region scans
Scans span all your active AWS regions, not just the primary one.
  • 24+ waste detectors
Idle EC2, oversized and previous-generation EC2, idle and oversized RDS, orphaned EBS volumes and snapshots, unused Elastic IPs, idle load balancers, NAT gateway overuse, idle Lambda, ElastiCache, Redshift, EFS, S3 lifecycle and storage-class issues, VPC endpoints, CloudWatch log retention, and Reserved Instance opportunities.
  • Plain-English remediation guidance
Every finding explains what it is, why it's wasteful, and how to fix it - no FinOps expertise required.
  • Scheduled re-scans
Automatic recurring scans compare findings month over month so drift and new waste surface before the next invoice.
  • Daily cost anomaly detection
Yesterday's spend is checked against a rolling baseline every morning to catch spikes early.
  • Email and Slack alerts
Get notified when new waste appears or spend spikes, by email or Slack.
  • Custom alert recipients
Route alerts to specific teammates or channels.
  • One-click remediation scripts
Deterministic, ready-to-run scripts for supported findings (never LLM-generated, never shown in public reports).
  • Realized savings tracking
See how much you've actually saved as findings get fixed.
  • Ask Claude about my bill
An AI cost assistant answers questions grounded in your own scan data.
  • Multi-account support
Cover multiple AWS accounts from one workspace.
  • PDF report export
Export a scan report as a shareable PDF.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing git-sizer and Parsivex.

What makes your product unique?

Parsivex's answer:

Most AWS cost tools stop at a one-time report. Parsivex is built around continuous monitoring: after the free scan it keeps watching - scheduled re-scans compare findings month over month and daily anomaly checks catch spend spikes against a rolling baseline, so waste that creeps back gets caught before the next invoice. It's opinionated about doing one job well for a small AWS footprint, with 24+ waste detectors and plain-English fixes that don't need a FinOps team.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Parsivex's answer:

Startups and small engineering teams that run primarily on AWS and don't have someone dedicated to cloud cost. Typically Seed to Series A companies with a growing AWS bill, where engineers own infrastructure spend directly and need cost control that's automatic rather than a full-time job.

What's the story behind your product?

Parsivex's answer:

Parsivex started from a simple observation: small teams find cloud waste once - usually in a panic after a surprising bill - fix a few things, and then watch the waste slowly come back because nobody's looking. The free scan answers "how much am I wasting right now?", but the real product is what happens after: continuous monitoring that keeps the answer honest over time.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Parsivex's answer:

Enterprise cloud cost platforms are heavy, multi-cloud, and priced for teams with a dedicated FinOps function. Parsivex is the opposite: AWS-only, up and running in about ten minutes with a read-only IAM role, and focused on startups and small engineering teams who pay their own bill. You get a free scan to see what's wasted today, and monitoring that keeps working so waste doesn't quietly return — without the setup and cost of a full cost-management suite.
