ProBlocker is a free ad blocker for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. On YouTube and every other website, it blocks:

  • Video ads (pre-roll, mid-roll, overlays)
  • Banners
  • Pop-ups and pop-unders
  • Autoplay ads
  • Trackers

Ad requests get cancelled at the network level before they load, instead of hidden after the page renders. That cuts load times and bandwidth use.

ProBlocker runs no Acceptable Ads program and keeps no paid whitelist. It collects no browsing data and runs entirely inside the browser, with no external servers involved.

ProBlocker was built for Manifest V3 from the start, so it works on current Chrome without workarounds or deprecated APIs.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Ghostery and ProBlocker.

What makes your product unique?

ProBlocker's answer:

ProBlocker runs no Acceptable Ads program, unlike AdBlock and Adblock Plus. It collects no browsing data and runs entirely inside the browser. It cancels ad requests at the network level before they load, instead of hiding them after the page renders. ProBlocker was built for Manifest V3 from the start, not adapted from an older extension.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

ProBlocker's answer:

Most alternatives make tradeoffs users don't always notice. AdBlock and Adblock Plus let certain ads through by default through their Acceptable Ads program. Total Adblock puts YouTube blocking behind a subscription. AdGuard's extension acts as a funnel toward its paid apps. ProBlocker has no paid tier, no whitelist, and no account requirement, so there's no hidden catch to work around.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

ProBlocker's answer:

People who used to run uBlock Origin on Chrome before it was removed under Manifest V3, and now want something built for the current extension platform rather than a stripped-down replacement. Also anyone tired of YouTube ads who doesn't want to pay a subscription or hand over browsing data to get rid of them.

What's the story behind your product?

ProBlocker's answer:

When Chrome enforced Manifest V3, many ad blockers lost features or were removed outright, including uBlock Origin. Most of what remained either ran an Acceptable Ads program that let some ads through for a fee, or made money by collecting user data. ProBlocker was built as an alternative that does neither: free, no whitelist, no data collection, built natively for Manifest V3.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

ProBlocker's answer:

ProBlocker is built on Chrome's Manifest V3 extension platform. It uses the declarativeNetRequest API for network-level ad and tracker blocking, the API Chrome introduced after phasing out the older webRequest blocking approach. Manifest V3 extensions run on a service worker model rather than the persistent background pages older extensions used.
