Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Fuelconomy and Vim Python IDE.

What makes your product unique?

Fuelconomy's answer

The only platform combining real-time fuel prices from 5 European government APIs in one place. 52,000+ stations, all fuel types including LPG/E85/hydrogen, updated daily. No crowdsourcing โ€“ every price is government-verified.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Fuelconomy's answer

GasBuddy is US-only. Waze shows limited fuel data. Country-specific apps cover one country each. Fuelconomy covers 5 countries in one interface with government data, cross-border comparison, route planning, and city-level analytics. Core features are free, no signup needed.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Fuelconomy's answer

European drivers who want to save on fuel: road trippers on cross-country routes, expats and cross-border commuters, budget-conscious locals filling up weekly, and fleet/delivery drivers optimizing costs.

What's the story behind your product?

Fuelconomy's answer

Built out of frustration overpaying for fuel on road trips in Europe. Discovered that governments publish real-time prices via APIs โ€“ but data is scattered across 5 portals in 5 languages. Nobody was combining it. So I built one map for all of them as a solo developer.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Fuelconomy's answer

React 19, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, MapLibre GL for maps, Supabase for backend, Sanity CMS for multilingual content, Vercel for hosting, GitHub Actions for automated data pipelines.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Fuelconomy's answer

  • European road trippers
  • Cross-border commuters and expats
  • Budget-conscious local drivers
  • Travel bloggers and content creators
  • Fleet operators and delivery drivers
