Don't do bootcamp. Start with something like https://freecodecamp.org and take a few lessons. Try to build something from that and see how motivated you are. If you see some progress and this thing still excites you, then may be find an engineer (a friend/co worker etc) who can guide you a bit as you continue to build something. This, essentially, is how you will find every single environment, in my experience. The first thing I would do is use something like device42.com to discover my environment. They have a free trial, and the license cost for 1-100 servers is only $1500. That (or any similar tool) will give you a baseline of what you're working with in a centralized database.
