Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Foliofox and Pyx.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Foliofox's answer

The primary audience consists of independent, long-term retail investors, passive index fund managers, and privacy-conscious tech enthusiasts. It is built specifically for global investors who hold assets across multiple currencies and want an intelligent, unbiased tool to simulate and evaluate future wealth strategies.

What makes your product unique?

Foliofox's answer

Foliofox is an open-source portfolio intelligence platform that uses contextual AI to act as a financial companion. Unlike traditional tools that only show current balances, it analyzes your historical net worth and investment data to answer complex, forward-looking financial questions. It provides deep analytical power while giving users complete ownership of their data.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Foliofox's answer

Investors should choose Foliofox because it bridges the gap between static spreadsheets and privacy-invasive tracking apps. It completely eliminates day-to-day budgeting clutter to focus purely on long-term wealth. Because it is open-source and self-hostable, you retain absolute data privacy without being forced to connect intrusive brokerage APIs.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Foliofox's answer

The core platform is modern and robust, built primarily using Next.js / React for a fast interface and Supabase for secure database management and user handling. The project is designed with modularity in mind and includes Docker support to make self-hosting straightforward for users.

What's the story behind your product?

Foliofox's answer

Foliofox started as a personal project born from the need to replace manual spreadsheets and find a reliable "second opinion" for long-term financial decisions. The founder frequently used LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude to analyze portfolio drawdowns, forecast future net worth milestones, and simulate mortgage savings plans. However, doing this repeatedly required copying and pasting massive amounts of financial data to provide context every single time. Foliofox was created to solve this problem by building a persistent, privacy-first portfolio tracker that gives an AI companion immediate, continuous context over your entire investment history.
