I read the book Fluent Forever and it recommends Anki so I thought I would try it. It says use images as a setup to avoid trying to translate in your head. And has 625 common and fairly concrete words to start people off. Source: over 2 years ago

A way to become aware of these subtle differences is practicing minimal pairs. I recommend Fluent Forever (https://fluent-forever.com/index.html), which I'm using. They have a 14 day free trial period and that's enough time for you to go through their listening and pronunciation section. You also learn the relevant parts of IPA for your TL while doing this. Flashcards/spaced repetition is a great way to get familiar with concepts and terms for memorization based subjects. Some apps like Remnote and Quizlet are great since they make you practice concepts you're less familiar with more often and concepts you're more familiar with more often.
