Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Fiance.software and Opalstack.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Fiance.software's answer

  • Fiancé is a consumer (B2C) app used directly by individual engaged couples, not a B2B product, so there are no named institutional or corporate customers to list. In keeping with its zero-data-collection design, it also doesn't track or publish customer/usage data for case studies.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Fiance.software's answer

A React Native/Expo app (iOS, Android, and web) built with TypeScript, structured as a pnpm monorepo. State is managed with Zustand, persisted to a local KV-store, and optionally synced through an end-to-end encrypted backend (AES-256-GCM) between a couple's devices. The web build is a static export deployed on Cloudflare.

What's the story behind your product?

Fiance.software's answer

Fiancé grew out of a simple frustration with existing wedding planning tools: most are really vendor directories in disguise, monetizing engaged couples by selling their contact details and attention to advertisers. The goal was to build the opposite: a real planning tool, budget, guests, seating, vendors, timeline, that works offline, keeps data on the couple's own device by default, and never requires an account just to RSVP or drop off a photo.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Fiance.software's answer

Engaged couples, primarily in France, planning their own wedding, typically for a 6-24 month runway. It's aimed at people who are privacy-conscious and want a focused planning tool rather than a vendor marketplace, and who may not always have reliable connectivity (at venues, during vendor visits, on the wedding day itself).

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Fiance.software's answer

Because it respects the couple's privacy and doesn't try to upsell them to vendors. Guests can RSVP or upload photos via a QR code with zero account creation. The app works fully offline (useful at the venue with poor signal on the wedding day), all core features are included without a paywall gate, and sync between partners is optional and encrypted rather than mandatory cloud storage. It's built for couples who want one tool that does budget, guests, seating, vendors, and planning together, instead of juggling spreadsheets and multiple apps.

What makes your product unique?

Fiance.software's answer

Fiancé is a 100% private, offline-first wedding planning app: no ads, no data collection, and no account required for guests. Everything works locally on-device by default, with an optional end-to-end encrypted sync (AES-256-GCM) for couples who want to share data between two phones. Most competing wedding apps are ad-supported vendor directories that monetize your guest list and vendor searches; Fiancé is a genuine planning tool (budget, guest list/RSVP, seating chart, vendor tracking, planning/checklist, photo sharing, wedding website) that never sells or shares your data.
