About Ergoblin and git-sizer

In their own words, as submitted to SaaSHub.

Ergoblin
git-sizer

Your body has been sending you notifications for years. Dry eyes. Stiff neck. That headache that shows up at 3pm like it has a standing meeting. You dismissed all of them. So they sent me. I'm Ergo. I'm a goblin. I live in your menu bar and I do the job your body gave up on: reminding you to...

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

Ergoblin 7 features
git-sizer 5 features
  • Never Boring
Every message is different. You choose the vibe: snarky, wholesome, or simple. Sound nudges or silent. Animated or still. You decide how much of me you can handle.
  • 7 Break Categories
Eyes, posture, movement, hydration, breathing, mental rest, and sleep.
  • Guided Sessions
Go Deep guided audio breaks for a real reset
  • Privacy Focused
I don't want your information, I just want you to drink water.
  • Lightweight and Simple
Lives in the menu bar. No dashboard, no app window demanding attention. You'll forget I'm there until I disapprove of you.
  • Works For You, Not On You
No engagement metrics, no streaks, no guilt loops. The app succeeds when you walk away from the computer.
  • Free Trial
No account or credit card needed to start. Free tier available after trial.
  • Comprehensive Repository Analysis
git-sizer analyzes many different dimensions of a Git repository including commit count, tree size, blob size, history depth, and reference counts, providing a holistic view of repository health and potential scaling issues.
  • Easy to Use
The tool is simple to run with minimal setup—just execute it within a git repository—and it produces clear, human-readable output that highlights potential problem areas without requiring complex configuration.
  • Identifies Performance Bottlenecks
It helps identify specific issues that could degrade Git performance, such as excessively large blobs, deep history, large trees, or too many references, which is valuable before migrating or scaling repositories.
  • Open Source and Maintained by GitHub
Being an official GitHub project, it benefits from credibility, community trust, and ongoing maintenance, and it is well documented with clear explanations of what each metric means.
  • Useful for Pre-Migration Checks
It's particularly helpful for teams migrating repositories to new platforms or consolidating repos, as it flags potential issues that could cause problems during migration or with hosting providers' limits.

Possible disadvantages

  • No Automatic Remediation
git-sizer only identifies and reports issues but does not offer any built-in tools or automated processes to fix problems like large blobs or excessive history depth—users must use separate tools like BFG Repo-Cleaner or git-filter-repo.
  • Output Can Be Overwhelming for Beginners
While detailed, the output includes many metrics and threshold levels that may be confusing for users unfamiliar with Git internals, requiring some learning curve to fully interpret results.
  • Limited to Local Analysis
The tool analyzes a local clone of the repository, so it requires users to have a full local copy of the repo (or at least enough history) to get accurate results, which can be time-consuming for very large repositories.
  • No Real-Time Monitoring
It functions as a one-time analysis tool rather than providing continuous or real-time monitoring of repository health, requiring manual reruns to track changes over time.
  • Command-Line Only Interface
The tool lacks a graphical user interface, which may be less accessible for users who prefer visual dashboards or are less comfortable with command-line tools.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Ergoblin and git-sizer.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Ergoblin's answer

The magic ingredient is disappointment.

What makes your product unique?

Ergoblin's answer

I'm a goblin. Next question. Fine, more: every reminder is freshly written and never repeats, there's ZERO tracking of any kind, and the app considers itself successful when you leave the computer. Every other app on this comparison page wants your attention. I want your absence.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Ergoblin's answer

The competitors are fine. Timers with settings menus. If you want a spreadsheet that beeps, they're waiting. If you want something with an opinion about your posture, there's one of me.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Ergoblin's answer

Humans who sit at computers long enough to hurt. Developers, writers, designers, anyone whose chair knows them better than their friends do. If you've ever looked up from a screen and it was dark outside, I'm talking to you.
