Personally, I feel like nothing happened to Reddit. Communities that I visit are pretty much what they were before Reddit changed its API policies. However, there's a subreddit for reddit alternatives (r/RedditAlternative) if you're curious :)) Lemmy and lobsters are the dominant ones in my mind. For HNews? You could use a personal site and host it in github pages if you don't want to post your content on an existing platform. And since you are interested in computer science, having a personal blog site would add a lot of value in your career.
