We're commonly doing this with logging, using services such as Loggly or DataDog. We're using managed databases, be it on AWS, Heroku or database-vendor-specific solutions. Remember, when looking at rent costs, there is often something called triple net (or NNN) which covers variable expenses for the landlord and can add another $1-2/sf/mo to your cost.
