  • Free Hosting
The platform provides free hosting for webcomics, making it accessible for creators at any budget level to share their work online.
  • Customizability
ComicFury allows users to customize the appearance of their webcomic pages with various templates and HTML/CSS editing capabilities, giving creators creative control over the presentation of their work.
  • Community Interaction
The site integrates community features such as comment sections, forums, and a community hub, fostering interaction and feedback between creators and readers.
  • Multiple Comic Management
Creators can manage multiple comics from a single account, providing a convenient solution for those with several ongoing projects.

Possible disadvantages of ComicFury

  • Limited Monetization Options
ComicFury does not offer extensive built-in monetization tools, which may require creators to seek external platforms to establish a revenue stream from their webcomics.
  • Less Traffic Compared to Major Platforms
Although ComicFury has a dedicated community, it doesn't boast the same level of traffic or exposure as larger webcomic platforms, which might limit discoverability for new creators.
  • Learning Curve for Customization
While the platform offers customization abilities, those without HTML/CSS experience may find the process of customizing their comic pages challenging initially.
  • Potentially Dated Design Elements
Some users may find certain design aspects of ComicFury's platform to be outdated compared to more modern webcomic websites, which can affect user experience.
  • Dependency on External Tools for Advanced Features
For advanced comic features like analytics or integrated subscription services, creators might need to rely on external tools and services, as ComicFury doesn't provide comprehensive in-built solutions.

startbase.dev features and specs

  • Faster project setup
Startbase.dev appears designed to help developers and founders quickly scaffold new projects with pre-built templates and boilerplate code, saving significant time compared to starting from scratch.
  • Focus on startups/MVPs
The platform seems tailored toward entrepreneurs and indie developers who want to launch minimum viable products quickly, which can be valuable for validating ideas without heavy upfront investment.
  • Modern tech stack
Such starter kits typically integrate current, popular frameworks and tools (e.g., Next.js, Tailwind, authentication, payments), reducing the need to research and configure these integrations manually.
  • Reduced boilerplate maintenance
By using a pre-built base, developers can avoid reinventing common features like user authentication, billing, and dashboards, letting them focus on unique business logic instead.
  • Potential cost savings
Compared to hiring a development team to build core infrastructure from scratch, using a starter template service can be more affordable for solo founders or small teams with limited budgets.

Possible disadvantages of startbase.dev

  • Limited customization flexibility
Pre-built starter kits and boilerplates often come with opinionated architecture and design choices that can be difficult or time-consuming to modify for highly specific or unconventional use cases.
  • Vendor/template lock-in risk
Relying on a specific boilerplate structure may create dependencies on certain libraries, patterns, or update cycles that could complicate long-term maintenance if the base template becomes outdated.
  • Learning curve for the specific stack
If the chosen tech stack differs from what a developer is familiar with, there may still be a learning curve to understand and effectively customize the starter codebase.
  • Uncertain long-term support
As a smaller or newer platform, there may be concerns about the longevity of updates, community support, and documentation compared to more established open-source alternatives.
  • Pricing transparency concerns
Depending on the pricing model, users may find costs less transparent or harder to justify compared to free, open-source boilerplates available elsewhere in the developer community.

ComicFury mentions (18)

  • Chapter 02 pg 164
Uhhh so on Comic Fury (the platform that hosts our comic's main site) there's the option to include a transcript, which is intended to just be so you can make your comic's dialogue searchable, if you enable the search function on your comic's site. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Any fan-comic writers?
Heck yeah fan comic artist here! You'll find more of us on ComicFury. I wished there was more of us also on AO3, but it's formatting doesn't really make it easy lol. Source: almost 4 years ago
  • Is there a platform for more mature webcomics than Webtoon's?
However, ComicFury is a good site for posting mature comics, I've found. There's a very extensive tagging & filtering system, so the site isn't as worried about little kids coming across mature content accidentally. Source: about 4 years ago
  • You know of a good community of older comic creators?
I dunno if this is what you're looking for- but a couple of months ago I found this site: Comicfury to host my comics because all the big ones favor scroll and I like page format. There are teenagers there on the forums but the average age of forum participants is 20-40 (with a lot of over/under) and it has a very active forum section. Source: about 4 years ago
  • To all writers who post fanfics on unconventional websites (sites that aren't AO3, FF.Net, or Wattpad), what's it like, why do you do it, and what site do you post your fics to?
Because my preferred way to tell stories is comics. As much as I love AO3, it's not comic-friendly. Thus my main place to read/post is Comic Fury. Source: about 4 years ago
