UI-UX pays well in general but the main thing you must work on will be a portfolio. I'd recommend doing some competitive research on portfolios. Check out cofolios.com, maybe scope out 20-30 portfolios that catch your eye, write down your observations, do a design sprint for your portfolio, get it reviewed either on reddit or on adplist, apply whatever feedback you got, then keep applying and iterating.
