Don't underestimate the strength of personal projects. If you ask a professor about their research, I find very often, they ask about things you have done in the past, which sort of feels like shit if youve done nothing huh? Originally I wanted to host it on a dedicated machine (Lenovo M710q Tiny PC). It's the model with a i3-7100t and I know it's more than capable of running the server. Though safety is what came to mind immediately. DDoS protection, hackers, whatever else.
