  • Runs directly in the terminal, integrating naturally into existing developer workflows without requiring a new IDE
  • Powered by Anthropic's capable Claude models, offering strong reasoning and code comprehension across large codebases
  • Supports agentic capabilities like reading, editing, and running code, executing commands, and handling multi-step tasks
  • Understands project context and can navigate large repositories to make coherent, context-aware changes
  • Backed by Anthropic's focus on safety and reliability, reducing risky or unpredictable actions
  • Streamlines common tasks such as debugging, refactoring, writing tests, and explaining unfamiliar code

Recommended for

  • Professional software developers looking to speed up coding and debugging tasks
  • Teams working with large or complex codebases that need context-aware assistance
  • Developers who prefer working in the terminal rather than a dedicated IDE
  • Engineers wanting to automate repetitive tasks like refactoring and test generation
  • Individuals and organizations already using or interested in Anthropic's Claude ecosystem

Analysis of Explyt

Overall verdict

  • Explyt (explyt.ai) is an AI-powered coding assistant/plugin (notably for IntelliJ-based IDEs) aimed at boosting developer productivity through code generation, chat-based assistance, and integration with large language models. It appears to be a solid, functional tool for developers seeking AI help directly in their IDE, though as a newer entrant it may lack the extensive track record, community size, and feature depth of more established competitors like GitHub Copilot or JetBrains AI Assistant.

Why this product is good

  • Integrates AI assistance directly into popular IDEs, reducing context switching
  • Supports code generation, explanation, and chat-based queries to speed up development
  • Aims to leverage modern LLMs to provide relevant, context-aware coding suggestions
  • Can be a cost-effective or flexible alternative to larger, more expensive AI coding tools
  • Actively positioned as a developer productivity tool with ongoing updates and improvements

Recommended for

  • Individual developers looking for an AI pair-programming assistant within their IDE
  • Teams exploring alternative AI coding tools alongside or instead of mainstream options
  • Users of IntelliJ-based IDEs wanting integrated AI support
  • Developers who want to experiment with newer AI coding assistants
  • Budget-conscious teams seeking cost-effective AI-assisted coding solutions

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Claude Code and Explyt.

What makes your product unique?

Explyt's answer:

Explyt is a JetBrains-native AI agent that uses the IDE as a source of project facts, not just as a chat window. It can navigate symbols, inspect dependency source code, run configured builds and tests, use debugger data, apply safe IDE refactorings, and analyze code through IDE inspections. This provides more precise results with less noisy context and fewer tokens.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Explyt's answer:

Choose Explyt when you need an AI agent that works with complex real-world codebases rather than only searching text and running terminal commands. Explyt operates through the configured JetBrains IDE environment, understands symbols and dependencies, supports debugging and semantic refactorings, and helps avoid failures caused by incorrect environment assumptions. It also offers access to leading models through a single subscription, including BYOK support and no product request limits.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Explyt's answer:

Explyt is built primarily for professional developers using JetBrains IDEs - especially Java, Kotlin, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, and PHP developers. Its core audience includes engineers working with large, legacy, enterprise, or dependency-heavy codebases, where accuracy, safe changes, test feedback, and reliable debugging matter more than simple code completion.

What's the story behind your product?

Explyt's answer:

Explyt was created by entrepreneurs, developers, and researchers with over a decade of experience in software engineering, formal methods, static analysis, and symbolic execution. The team includes former JetBrains Research and Huawei Research specialists, as well as researchers and engineering leaders with experience in academia and industry. We started Explyt to make AI agents more controllable, reliable, and effective by combining modern LLMs with the precise project knowledge already available in JetBrains IDEs.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Explyt's answer:

Explyt is built on the JetBrains Platform and integrates deeply with JetBrains IDE capabilities. Its technology stack combines large language models with IDE APIs, static analysis, symbol navigation, debugger integration, code inspections, automated testing and coverage feedback, formal methods, and symbolic-execution approaches.
