On top of that, it supports multi-NPC scenes where several characters talk to you (and each other) at once instead of everything being locked to one-on-one, and a builder lets you combine your own characters, scenarios, lorebooks and worlds instead of being stuck with a single template. It's also free and runs entirely in the browser, with no account needed to start chatting and no API keys or installs like SillyTavern requires.

Garret, the founder, had used Character.AI a lot and liked it but kept getting frustrated that characters would forget things after just a few messages. SillyTavern fixed the memory problem but demanded API keys, installs and technical setup most people don't want to deal with. Chatbrat started as an attempt to get the best of both: the ease of a browser-based chat app with memory and customization that actually holds up over long conversations. It's still actively being developed based on user feedback.
