Popular campgrounds open for reservations months in advanceโ€”and sell out in minutes. But many of those campsite reservations get canceled. So, we built an app that scans sold-out parks for new availabilities and sends notifications about them. Since we did, weโ€™ve helped campers all over North America find campsites that might have otherwise gone unused.

To create a scan, visit https://campnab.com and search for the place you want to camp. You then note your arrival date, length of stay, and how you want to pay. Once youโ€™re done, Campnab scans that park for an opening that matches your needs. If it spots one, it notifies you with a text message.

CodeFast features and specs

  • Rapid Project Launch
CodeFast is designed to help developers and entrepreneurs ship projects quickly, providing boilerplate code and templates that significantly reduce the time from idea to a working product.
  • Built for Indie Hackers & Solopreneurs
The platform is tailored for solo developers and indie hackers who want to build and launch SaaS products, side projects, or startups without a large team, offering practical and actionable content.
  • Next.js & Modern Stack Focus
CodeFast focuses on modern, in-demand technologies like Next.js, React, and related tools, ensuring learners are building skills with widely-used and relevant frameworks.
  • Community & Support
CodeFast provides access to a community of like-minded builders and entrepreneurs, offering peer support, networking opportunities, and motivation to keep shipping products.
  • Comprehensive Starter Templates
The platform offers ready-to-use starter kits and boilerplates that include authentication, payments, database setup, and other common SaaS features, saving significant development time on repetitive tasks.

Possible disadvantages of CodeFast

  • Premium Pricing
The course and starter kits come at a significant cost, which may be prohibitive for beginners, hobbyists, or developers in lower-income regions who are just starting out.
  • Opinionated Tech Stack
CodeFast is heavily focused on a specific tech stack (primarily Next.js), which may not suit developers who prefer or need to work with other frameworks like Vue, Angular, or different backend technologies.
  • Not for Complete Beginners
The content assumes a baseline level of programming knowledge. Absolute beginners with no coding experience may find it difficult to follow along without prior foundational learning.
  • Dependency on Templates
Relying heavily on boilerplate code and starter kits can limit deeper understanding of the underlying technologies, potentially leaving developers unable to troubleshoot or customize beyond the provided templates.
  • Limited Depth on Advanced Topics
Because the focus is on shipping fast, some advanced software engineering concepts like scalability, testing, architecture patterns, and security best practices may not be covered in sufficient depth.

Analysis of CodeFast

Overall verdict

  • CodeFast is a well-regarded coding bootcamp-style course created by Marc Lou, aimed at teaching people how to build and ship web apps quickly, particularly for indie hackers and entrepreneurs rather than traditional software engineering career paths.

Why this product is good

  • Created by Marc Lou, a successful indie hacker with multiple profitable SaaS products, lending credibility to the practical approach taught
  • Focuses on speed and shipping real projects rather than deep theoretical computer science concepts
  • Teaches a modern, practical tech stack (Next.js, React, etc.) that's directly applicable to building SaaS products
  • Community access allows students to network with other builders and get support
  • Emphasis on building an actual portfolio of shipped products rather than just completing exercises
  • Regularly updated content to keep pace with changing web development practices

Recommended for

  • Aspiring indie hackers who want to build and launch their own SaaS products
  • Entrepreneurs with business ideas who need technical skills to build MVPs themselves
  • Non-technical founders looking to become technical enough to ship products without hiring developers
  • People who prefer project-based learning over traditional computer science curricula
  • Those specifically interested in the Next.js/React ecosystem for web app development
  • Self-motivated learners who want a fast-track path to shipping products rather than a comprehensive CS education

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Campnab and CodeFast.

What makes your product unique?

Campnab's answer

Campnab scans sold-out state, provincial, national, and some county parks for cancelled campsite reservations and permits. When it spots an opening that matches your requirements, it sends a text message to you about the new availability.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Campnab's answer

We monitor parks throughout the US and Canadaโ€”and can check for backcountry availabilities in a number of these parks. Using Campnab is super-easy as weโ€™ve put so much effort into making the interface clean and intuitive. Plus, it has all kinds of useful features (for example: the ability to scan only for specific campsites). Meanwhile, if you ever run into an issue, one of us will help resolve it one-on-one. Members tend to be pleased that a real human is ready to lend a hand when needed.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Campnab's answer

A lot of seasonal campers use Campnab throughout the spring, summer, and early fall. That said, we also do see a number of full-time RVers sign up for annual plans, as they need to be able to find campsite reservations year-round. We also find that some fair-weather campers use our pay-per-use scans once or twice a year.

What's the story behind your product?

Campnab's answer

Eric and Kim bought a campervan, but couldnโ€™t find a place to camp as every park was sold-out. This led Kim to spend hours hitting Refresh on the parksโ€™ booking site in hopes of finding an availability. Eric figured he could automate the process to save Kim some timeโ€”and realized that others might also like this sort of service. So, he and his friend (also named Eric) released the product publicly. Since then, Campnab has become our full-time job, as we work to keep the system running well, add new features, and introduce scanning for additional regions.

Campnab Reviews

  1. A Happy and Repeat Customer

We have been using Campnab for the most popular camping destinations around the country and have had 100% success in finding not only a campsite, but the specific waterfront campsites we always seek out. I highly recommend this campsite service to all of our friends and family, i promise you will not be disappointed! We have used this service at least 15 different times in the past few years and are more than satisfied.

๐Ÿ‘ Pros:    Easy user interface|Great customer support|Notification and alert|Affordable price
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons:    None that i can think of
  2. Awesome service!!

I've used Campnab twice and was able to secure great campsites in my desired location both times. Both were for very busy weekends and I wouldn't have been able to snag a campsite otherwise. Love this service so much!

    ๐Ÿ‘ Pros:    Easy to use|Quick and easy|Efficient
  3. Worked really well

I recommend this app to anyone that likes camping and will definitely use it in the future. I was interested in camping in Canyonlands National Park, UT, but it was solid booked at least 6 months in advance. Though a bit skeptical at the beginning, I tried Campnab and now I have a reservation! The setup, login, setting up alarms in Campnab was very easy and straightforward. And a few weeks later I got a message about a cancellation. Good idea and very good app!

    ๐Ÿ‘ Pros:    Works perfectly|User friendly interface|Inexpensive
