Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Buffer and ScoutRival.

What's the story behind your product?

ScoutRival's answer:

ScoutRival came out of agency work. Running a web design and SEO agency meant constantly researching competitors for clients by hand: checking their sites, their content, their positioning, then turning that research into action. The process was slow, repetitive, and impossible to scale. ScoutRival automates that exact workflow, from detecting what rivals shipped to drafting the counter-move, so small teams get the kind of competitive awareness that used to require an analyst.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

ScoutRival's answer:

Small and mid-sized businesses, agencies, and founders who compete in crowded markets but don't have a marketing team large enough to monitor competitors manually. Typical users are solo founders, marketing leads at 2-20 person companies, and agencies managing multiple client brands. If you've ever found out about a competitor's launch a month late, you're the audience.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

ScoutRival's answer:

I don't have your confirmed stack on file, so tell me and I'll finalize this one. A safe honest structure would be something like:

Claude (Anthropic) for analysis and content generation [Frontend framework, e.g. Next.js/React] [Backend, e.g. Node.js] [Database, e.g. PostgreSQL/Supabase] Google Search Console integration for traffic data

What makes your product unique?

ScoutRival's answer:

ScoutRival combines competitor intelligence with execution. Most tools stop at tracking. They tell you a rival changed their pricing page, then leave you to figure out what to do about it. ScoutRival scans your competitors, gives you a verdict on what matters, then generates the response in your own brand voice: blog articles, social posts, and a prioritized next move. It also tracks how visible your brand is inside AI engines like ChatGPT and Claude, which most SMB tools ignore entirely. One platform handles the watching, the deciding, and the doing.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

ScoutRival's answer:

Because it closes the gap between insight and action. Enterprise intel tools like Crayon or Klue are built for dedicated competitive teams with big budgets. Content tools like Jasper write copy but have no idea what your rivals are doing. ScoutRival is built for small teams that have neither the time nor the headcount for both. You get a Daily Brief that reads like a strategist wrote it, content drafted in your actual brand voice, and AI search visibility tracking, all at SMB pricing. No analyst required.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

ScoutRival's answer:

If you don't have named customers to list publicly yet, don't invent any. Directories accept this framing:

Early-stage SMBs and solo founders in competitive niches Web design and SEO agencies managing multiple client brands Marketing leads at small B2B SaaS companies

Send me the real stack and any customer names you can disclose, and I'll lock those two answers.
