Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Bright Data and StackSheriff.

What makes your product unique?

StackSheriff's answer:

Most review sites publish opinions and call them tests. StackSheriff publishes its receipts instead.

  • Every factual claim is either sourced or labelled as opinion. Prices, limits, percentages and feature claims carry an inline link to the vendor's own docs, pricing page or changelog, with the date we checked it. Anything that is our judgement is explicitly marked "Our read:" or "Our verdict:". There is no third category. A published post is blocked automatically if a number appears without a source next to it.
  • We say out loud what we don't do. We are not a test lab. We don't have an SDR team, a print farm or a bench, and we don't pretend otherwise โ€” no invented "we ran 500 emails through it" anecdotes. Our method section on each review tells you exactly what we read and where.
  • We run real first-party uptime monitoring. 818 tools are probed continuously from three geographic regions, and every incident, response-time chart and 90-day history is public at /status/. That's measured data we generate ourselves, not a vendor's status badge re-hosted.
  • Cons are not optional. Every review names who should avoid the tool. We link non-partner alternatives when they're the better answer, and a higher affiliate commission never changes a verdict.
  • Quality is enforced by machine, not vibes. Every post passes a composite gate scoring sourcing, source freshness, per-section depth, readability and citation-worthiness before it can publish. Posts that can't pass go to human review โ€” they don't quietly ship.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

StackSheriff's answer:

Because you can check our work in about thirty seconds, and because we cover the part of the buying decision the big directories skip.

  • Against G2 / Capterra: those are vendor-influenced review aggregators where placement correlates with spend. We publish one clearly-argued verdict per tool with the reasoning and the sources attached, plus who should walk away.
  • Against AI-generated affiliate blogs: the failure mode there is confident invention โ€” fake benchmarks, fake test durations, prices that were true two years ago. Our pricing claims carry a "checked" date and a link, and a source older than 90 days blocks the post from publishing at all.
  • Against vendor documentation: vendors won't tell you the rate limit that bites on day three, or that the cheaper competitor is the right call for your team size. We will.
  • Practical extras you won't find elsewhere: live uptime and incident history for 818 tools, a 263-term plain-English glossary, and free interactive calculators and decision tools (cold-email ROI, print-cost, stack detectors) rather than another PDF-for-your-email trade.

If you want a fast, honest read on whether a tool is worth your money โ€” and the ability to verify every number in it โ€” that's the whole product.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

StackSheriff's answer:

Tech-forward professionals and makers, roughly 25โ€“45, who buy or recommend their own tools and have been burned by a bad pick before. They're practitioners, not executives โ€” the person who will actually use the software, running a small team or a solo operation without a procurement department to hide behind.

Four groups, matching our four coverage pillars:

  • Go-to-market and sales operators โ€” founders, SDR leads and growth people choosing between Apollo, Instantly, Clay, Smartlead, Lemlist and the rest of the outbound stack.
  • 3D printing hobbyists and small print-shop owners โ€” buying printers, filament and slicers, and troubleshooting prints that failed at 80%.
  • Automation builders โ€” the n8n / Make.com / Zapier crowd wiring systems together, usually as the only technical person in the room.
  • AI tool adopters โ€” creative and technical users evaluating generative image, video, voice and 3D tools that change pricing every quarter.

They're skeptical of marketing language, they read the pricing page before the homepage, and they'll click a source link to check whether you're bluffing. We write for that reader.

What's the story behind your product?

StackSheriff's answer:

StackSheriff started in 2026 out of a specific frustration: every search for "is this tool any good" returned the same three things โ€” vendor marketing, a directory listing ranked by ad spend, or an affiliate post that had clearly never opened the product.

The site launched covering the four categories its founder actually buys tools in: GTM software, 3D printing, automation platforms and AI tools.

If we couldn't claim to test tools, we had to earn authority some other way โ€” so we built things that produce real data: a monitoring fleet that probes 818 tools continuously and publishes the uptime history, a glossary that explains the jargon vendors use to avoid being compared, and free calculators that answer the question underneath the tool choice ("what will this actually cost me?").

Today it's 279 reviews and guides, 818 monitored status pages, 263 glossary terms and 37 free tools and resources โ€” all held to the same rule. Small, opinionated, and checkable.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

StackSheriff's answer:

  • Publishing: WordPress with a custom full-site-editing block theme, PHP 8.3 (FPM), served by Caddy on DigitalOcean, fronted by Cloudflare for edge caching and DNS. Site behaviour lives in seven purpose-built PHP plugins rather than off-the-shelf ones.
  • Status monitoring: a fleet of probes written in Go, deployed across three DigitalOcean regions, reporting into a PostgreSQL + TimescaleDB time-series store, with Prometheus instrumentation and a Cloudflare Worker at the edge.
  • Editorial dashboard: Next.js 15 and React 19 (TypeScript), with Drizzle ORM over PostgreSQL, BullMQ and Redis for background job orchestration, and Turborepo for the monorepo build.
  • Content pipeline: a custom Node/TypeScript MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that wires the editorial system to WordPress, Google Search Console, GA4 and the publishing surfaces โ€” plus a Python analysis layer running the quality gate (Yoast SEO scoring, readability, sourcing checks, natural-language inference for claim verification, and citation-likelihood scoring for AI answer engines).
  • Analytics: GA4 with a first-party server-side measurement relay, so attribution survives ad-blockers.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

StackSheriff's answer:

Straight answer: StackSheriff doesn't have customers. It's a free, ad- and affiliate-supported publication โ€” nobody pays us for access, and we don't sell software or services. Our readers are the audience, not the customer base.

The closest equivalent is our commercial partners: 22 vendor affiliate programs are live, and roughly 200 more are in place awaiting approval. To be explicit โ€” these companies are partners we may earn a commission from, not customers, and being on this list buys no influence over a review or a verdict.

    Mixed feelings

We used their DC proxies and Residential proxies. Resi proxies were having quite low success rate. We had to use resi solution from other proxy providers. Unblocker didn't work well either also it was way too expensive.

    Competitors: Decodo, NetNut.io
    Pros:    Cheap dc proxies
Cons:    Quite expensive|Residential proxies are worse than competitiors
