Vim Python IDE
BetterDB is the first monitoring platform built specifically for Valkey, the open-source Redis fork backed by the Linux Foundation. It persists ephemeral operational data so you can debug what happened at 3 AM when you wake up at 9 AM.
Fully Redis-compatible. Free during beta. Deploy with a single Docker command.
Supports features unique to Valkey that Redis tools can't: COMMANDLOG (Valkey 8.1+), per-slot statistics via SLOT-STATS, and automatic capability detection that adapts to Valkey vs Redis.
bash
docker run -d --name betterdb -p 3001:3001 \
-e DB_HOST=your-valkey-host \
betterdb/monitor
One container. Sub-1% performance overhead (benchmarked and open-sourced).

BetterDB's answer
BetterDB is the first monitoring platform built specifically for Valkey. Unlike generic Redis monitoring tools, it persists ephemeral operational data (slowlogs, client connections, command patterns) that normally vanish within seconds. It also supports Valkey-exclusive features like COMMANDLOG and per-slot statistics that no other tool can monitor. This means you can debug what happened at 3 AM when you wake up at 9 AM.
BetterDB's answer
Existing tools like Redis Insight or generic APM dashboards only show real-time data and don't support Valkey-specific features. BetterDB provides historical analytics, pattern analysis, anomaly detection, and ACL audit trails with persistent storage. It deploys as a single Docker container with sub-1% performance overhead (benchmarked with an open-source interleaved testing methodology). The free tier provides genuine monitoring value with no artificial limitations.
BetterDB's answer
DevOps engineers, SREs, and backend developers running Valkey or Redis in production who need operational visibility beyond real-time metrics. Particularly teams migrating from Redis to Valkey who need purpose-built tooling, and organizations with compliance requirements around database access auditing.
BetterDB's answer
NestJS with Fastify for the backend API, React with shadcn/ui for the frontend, TypeScript across the full stack, PostgreSQL and SQLite for time-series storage, Docker for distribution, and Prometheus for metrics export. The Valkey/Redis connectivity uses the iovalkey client library.

I built this after a year at Redis as an engineering manager for their developer tools, watching the ecosystem fragment after the license change. Redis 7.4 broke data file compatibility with Valkey. RIOT, the only widely-used open migration tool, was archived last October with no open replacement. And the clouds - AWS, GCP, Redis Cloud - have no incentive to make leaving easy. If you want to move between... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
