AdSense allows website owners to earn money by displaying ads on their site, which can be a significant source of income.
  • Flexible Ad Formats
Google AdSense offers a variety of ad formats (text, image, video) that can blend seamlessly into the layout of a website.
  • Easy to Use
Setting up AdSense is relatively straightforward, even for those with limited technical experience.
  • High-Quality Ads
As a product of Google, AdSense provides access to high-quality advertisers, which can enhance the overall user experience.
  • Reliable Payments
Google AdSense has a consistent and reliable payment system, which ensures timely payouts for earnings.
  • Detailed Reports
AdSense offers detailed performance reports, giving users insights into ad performance, earnings, and visitor interactions.
  • Wide Reach
AdSense is used by millions of websites, indicating a broad acceptance and trust in the platform.

Possible disadvantages of AdSense

  • Ad Control Limitations
Although flexible, there is limited control over the specific ads displayed, which can sometimes lead to irrelevant or low-quality ads.
  • Payout Threshold
AdSense requires a minimum threshold of $100 before payments are issued, which can delay earnings for smaller sites.
  • Strict Policies
Google's policies can be strict, and violations (even unintentional) can result in account suspension or ban.
  • Revenue Share
Google takes a percentage of the ad revenue, meaning publishers don't earn the full amount advertisers pay.
  • Ad Placement Restrictions
There are specific rules about where and how ads can be placed, sometimes limiting layout flexibility and user experience.
  • Competition
The high number of AdSense users can make it competitive, impacting the ad rates and potential earnings for publishers.
  • Dependence on Traffic
The revenue earned through AdSense heavily depends on the amount and quality of web traffic, which can fluctuate.

  • Community and Documentation
AppWrite has an active community and well-documented guides, tutorials, and API references, which are essential for learning and troubleshooting.

Possible disadvantages of AppWrite

  • Resource Intensive
Being a self-hosted solution, AppWrite may require significant server resources for optimal performance, which can be costly.
  • Initial Setup Complexity
The initial setup and configuration can be complex and time-consuming, particularly for those less experienced with server management.
  • Limited Third-Party Integrations
As compared to some other backend-as-a-service (BaaS) platforms, AppWrite has fewer pre-built third-party integrations, which might limit its extensibility.
  • Newer and Evolving
AppWrite is relatively new and still evolving, which can mean fewer features compared to more mature platforms and the potential for more bugs.
  • Maintenance Responsibility
Since it is self-hosted, the responsibility for server maintenance, updates, and security falls solely on the user, which can be a drawback for smaller teams or solo developers.

AdSense is recommended for bloggers, website owners, and YouTube content creators who have substantial and consistent traffic. It's ideal for those who prefer a straightforward, automated way of earning revenue without the need to manage relationships with individual advertisers. AppWrite Reviews

  1. Appwrite is awesome, free and open-source!

I've use it instead of Firebase on a 15$ DigitalOcean droplet and saved around ~$150 a month. Managing my own infra does take some extra time, but definitely worth it. The APIs and SDK are also surprisingly much easier to consume than Firebase. Waiting for the cloud version.
