That can be annoying. Do you see them on Flipboard or when you navigate to the actual website of the article? If that's the case, then it would be up to the website that is hosting the article. I would recommend a good popup/ad blocker like adblock plus. Source: about 3 years ago

Safari's ad-blocking abilities are no more potent than what Chrome's Manifest v3 gives you. In fact, the changes in MV3 were inspired by Safari. You can also use something like AdGuard (Android/iOS) to block the ads on your phone. It's free. I personally used it and saw no ads on the site. Pretty easy to set up, too. You may need to tweak the filters a bit, though. Source: about 3 years ago
