Also, look further down the chart. There were 236 movies released theatrically in 1990 (according to boxofficemojo.com). In 2019, there were 910, and more than double the number of theatres. It was also a very different market in a lot of ways. 1937's Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, adjusted for inflation, is the highest grossing movie, but due to its age, boxofficemojo.com doesn't have it on their list and Wikipedia didn't bother in doing that adjustment likely because... well, part of the money from the movie was made thanks to the re-release for the 50 anniversary back in 1987, so one has to split the inflation for each re-release.
