Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Bloomtime.app.
  1. What makes Bloomtime.app unique?

Progress you can actually see. Instead of a checkmark or a points counter, every child picks one of eight illustrated worlds, and that world visibly grows through ten stages as time is tracked. Bare soil becomes a finished zen garden; an empty stage fills up until it is a sold-out concert. The world only changes because time was really logged, so the reward is earned rather than handed out.

  2. Why should a person choose Bloomtime.app over its competitors?

Because it sits in a gap. Habit trackers like Habitica are built around adults and RPG mechanics. Chore apps hand out stars and quickly feel like a punishment chart. Professional trackers like Toggl exist to bill hours. Bloomtime tracks real time, turns it into something a child wants to look at, and puts the parent controls โ€” screen-time limits, approvals, PIN-protected areas โ€” into the same family account. It runs in the browser without an app store, the servers are in Germany, there are no ads and no data selling.

  3. How would you describe the primary audience of Bloomtime.app?

Families with school-age children, roughly six to fourteen. On the parent side: people who want fewer daily arguments about screen time and a clear picture of where the hours actually go. On the child side: kids who are learning to judge time for themselves and stay motivated by visible progress rather than by being reminded. It is deliberately not a business tool โ€” there is no billing, no client work, no invoicing.

  4. What's the story behind Bloomtime.app?

It was built by a single developer in Nottuln, Germany, out of a recurring argument at home about how long the tablet had been on. Every chore and reward app we tried felt like a punishment chart: the sticker gets handed out, the motivation wears off. The idea was to make the reward something the child owns and watches grow โ€” and to give the parents real controls in the same account instead of a separate surveillance app. Getting ten stages to feel meaningfully different across eight worlds took considerably longer than the time tracking itself.

  5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Bloomtime.app?

Frontend: Nuxt with Vue and TypeScript, server-side rendered, delivered as an installable progressive web app; the growing worlds are hand-built SVG scenes. Backend: Django with the Django REST Framework, MariaDB and JWT authentication. Payments run through Stripe. Interface in German, English, French and Spanish. Hosted in Germany.
