  • Whistleblower: Doge Siphoned NLRB Case Data
Https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us/ None of this is new, AWS' dedicated US government stuff has existed for around a decade. > To what degree is the federal government subsidizing Amazon's retail dominance? Not more than any other big AWS customer. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
  • It is no longer safe to move our governments and societies to US clouds
The US Gov't has their own GOV Cloud Datacenter Regions. It's run by azure and AWS but there are restrictions on who is allowed to use it. It's not really public https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us/?whats-new.sort-by=item.additionalFields.postDateTime&whats-new.sort-order=desc https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-government/documentation-government-overview-dod. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • It is no longer safe to move our governments and societies to US clouds
Isn't this just kind of willfully ignorant to the way the government cloud works? GovCloud claims that it's used to "manage sensitive data and controlled unclassified information (CUI)." I don't think the US government is dumping classified info onto corporate cloud environments judging by this description from GovCloud. But there's plenty of info that's sensitive but unclassified and the government does need to... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • ChatGPT Gov
This should be unsurprising- see also govcloud: https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us The US government likes its employees and contractors to have their own separate version of cloud products. For instance you would not want OpenAI using prompts about controlled export information as training data. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago

  • US federal government interested in our SaaS product, any insight on how to close the deal?
In which cloud is your oftware hosted? If it's hosted in AWS, AWS has a specific govcloud. So possibly you could get an account on there, and host a version of your software on there, specifically for them. Source: over 2 years ago
  • US government launches Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy
Then you were incompetent in your role. Various cloud providers have environments that comply with a variety of government regulatory/compliance and security frameworks. Example: https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us/. Source: about 3 years ago
  • How easy would it be to crack Nazi encrypted “Enigma" machine with today’s technology?
Yes, the US military uses AWS (https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us). Source: over 3 years ago
  • [New] Network Load Balancer (NLB) now supports TLS 1.3
TLS 1.3 is available on NLBs in all commercial AWS Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. Please visit the NLB documentation to learn more. Source: over 3 years ago
  • NSA Awards Secret $10 Billion Contract to Amazon
Most people don't realize that Amazon already manages multiple AWS cloud regions specifically for government use. Called AWS GovCloud, it spans multiple physical locations on both the US east & west coasts. My guess is that a contract like this one will be used to either expand one or both of these regions, or to build up yet another government-only region. Source: almost 4 years ago
  • WikiLeaks created a map showing where Amazon’s data centers are located
Amazon is the leading cloud provider for the United States intelligence community. In 2013, Amazon entered into a $600 million contract with the CIA to build a cloud for use by intelligence agencies working with information classified as Top Secret. Then, in 2017, Amazon announced the AWS Secret Region, which allows storage of data classified up to the Secret level by a broader range of agencies and... Source: almost 4 years ago
  • Since 2018, Amazon Web Services has hired at least 66 former government officials, most directly from government posts and more than half from the Defense Department
The name is only mentioned once, in a quote, in the whole article but AWS has a whole separate cloud infrastructure just for the US govt, GovCloud. Hiring govt officials only makes sense. I understand some of the controversy over anti-competitive practices but no one should be surprised that they hire right out of govt. Source: almost 4 years ago
