  • Hacked results
4 There should be alot of code, If it says error change the URL to your country code for example Ancestry.com (US) Ancestry.co.uk (UK). Source: over 2 years ago
  • My True Ancestry! I'm a Modern Hungarian.
It's quite easy. You just have to download your DNA file from ancestry.com and then upload the zip file to MyTrueHeritage (after signing up of course). Then in 10 minutes your results are ready! Source: over 2 years ago
  • I found out im pretty much English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh with a tad bit of Icelandic... Why do I have such thick brown curly dry hair olive skin and brown eyes?
Ill definitely keep that in mind I did do ancestry.com's test and was not exactly satisfied as it did not tell me what part of England or Ireland my family comes from as we are all very disconnected. Source: over 2 years ago
  • The Ainu: Japanโ€™s Nearly Forgotten Indigenous Peoples
My sister did do an ancestry.com DNA test, but it was super underwhelming since it was just 100% Japanese, with no regional breakdown. I think 23andMe does a better job and at least has Japanese regions, but unfortunately we went with the budget option. Source: over 2 years ago
  • My family wonโ€™t acknowledge they got their tan skin from my ashkenazi Jewish great-grandpa.
That being said, my mom is 100% Ashkenazi (according to ancestry.com genetic testing) and as a little kid I used to ask her if she was black because her skin is so brown (I wasn't asking in a pejorative way I was just genuinely curious) and it is weird to me that people think that just because our families immigrated from Poland/Russia, that means we are of Polish/Russian ancestry; our ancestors were ethnic... • Question for the druid scholars: are there any evidence-based ways to estimate if someone has gaelic druid ancestry?
I did a DNA test from livingdna.com and did some ancestry work through ancestry.com. I have lineage in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, the Netherlands, and Germany. There's bound to be some Celts in there. But, from what I know Druidry has no records other than some things Julius Cesar wrote about Druids and Celts. Source: over 2 years ago
  • My Dad's last name is Irish but his 23andme is 89% Italian (tiny bit of Greek) and 10% middle eastern. His mom's side is very Italian but the dad's family was Irish. Just confused why. How does that happen and espically the very Irish last name. His dad looked like him. I just find it curious is all
I would do a tree and maybe get an ancestry.com test for your dad. Ancestry has a lot more trees than 23andme and automatically splits up the matches from maternal and paternal side so super easy to figure things out. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Has anyone ever hired a "professional" genealogist? Was it worth it?
I was quite happy with my experience. I had a handful of brick walls dating back to the mid 1800's in the UK that I'd made no progress with for years. I researched professional UK genealogists and the whole process was quite easy. The genealogist did a good job and it wasn't prohibitively pricey. Far cheaper than dropping $3K with ancestry.com. • Illegitimate granchild searching
Hello all , I hope this is the right place to post this. I am looking for my biological grandad, my grandmother was a mistress of a married man without realising , he would come to wales for business trips from arizona. My mom was the result of that affair and I was born after in ireland. The knock on effect of this trauma is still eating at our family 2 generations later, im looking to find out who this guy was... • Seeking help: is this part of my family truly inbred or am I missing something?
I would just be so grateful if someone would be able to guide me in the right direction. I have ancestry.com and haven't been really able to find any birth or death records for Vichy. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Sรกmi DNA test?
I've looked into DNA tests like ancestry.com, but they never seem to include the Sรกmi as one of the ethnic groups or regions they test for, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any tests that actually did test for Sรกmi DNA? I'd be very interested in anything that could give me more information. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Took a DNA test and found out I am (m27) 9% Basque LOL.
I have loved Bilbao since I was 12 years old. My family is Mom & Dad are Guatemalan for context and one day I decided to take an ancestry.com test at the age of 24 lol. I didn't know what to expect but was interested. Results were 28% Spain, 27% Guatemalan, 19% Portugal, 9% Basque. I laughed out loud when I read the results. I didn't think I would care about any of the results but I was kinda happy to know I have... Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Bio brother (33M) finally found me (25F) after 25 years. Advice?
By chance, he was looking through ancestry.com when he was curious about his bio parents (my parents), and realized I existed on my mothers obituary, then dove into facebook to see if I existed on there... He then had the courage to send me a message I thought I would never receive. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Help with HUNGARIAN genealogy
Hi all, Im trying to find either birth certificate or baptism document for my relatives, but cant seem to find it in Familysearch, or ancestry.com. I have even tried c0ntacting the churches/parishes individually but no luck. If anyone knows how to navigate this stuff a bit better, please advise. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Just discovered that I have an older half-sister. My ndad tried to give me the same name.
I made a profile on ancestry.com recently to get info about my great grandparents. Long story short I found out that my father had secret a daughter with a woman that is not my mother. I have reached out to her but I am spiraling out a bit. My father is emotionally abusive and I can't think of a way this will end well-- based on details it seems like he knew about her and has been lying to his whole family my... • Help With Research on Shanghai Resident post 1949
If anyone here has any tips for trying to find out what happened to Benjamin after 1949 they would be most welcome! To date most of my research has been done using Google, Baidu (with the help of ChatGPT for translations), and Ancestry.com. I was considering reaching out to some of the organizations he was affiliated with, namely the Rotary Club of Shanghai and the Baptist church, but I am not quite sure where to... • Found my Great grandparents divorce certificate on ancestry, Wish I hadn't.
After taking a break for over a year I decided to sign up for ancestry.com again. I was looking at the hints for my Grandma Alice. She was actually my great grandmother, my maternal grandma's mom. It was a divorce certificate dated 1968 in Washington. On the certificate it stated that the divorce was granted to my Great Grandpa Frank on the grounds of cruelty. Not going to lie, I was floored. From what my mother... Source: about 3 years ago
  • Finding my bio-fathers side of the family
So I will make this as short as I can. My mother is a habitual liar and mentally ill so often she cant tell the truth from her own lies. She has told different stories of how I was conceived to every member of our family and friends. The story she tells me is she was raped. The story she tells my grandma is it was a bf. The story she told my aunt was a one night stand. Any which way it happened I am here. I have... Source: about 3 years ago
  • If estranged relatives are on ancestry.com, can they see that I'm creating a family tree?
I am estranged from much of my living family; however, I recently decided that I wanted to learn more about my grandmother's family history since she was such an important person in my life. That led me to ancestry.com, so I signed up and started browsing. It turns out that several family members that I have gone no contact with have public trees on ancestry and, before I even knew what I was doing, I added shared... Source: about 3 years ago
  • I do not think Black Americans should get a monetary payout for reparations.
I would be all for reparations if there was legitimate way to make it work but it's impossible to make happen for so may reasons. The question of "How black is black enough?" is gonna be pretty hard to answer in some cases and you just know some decent percentage white people will ancestry.com and/or Rachel Dolezal their way to some reparations money. Look at fucking college scholarships and stuff like that. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Raf is like but we aren't Spanish.
We should demand results from ancestry.com or 23 and me and if she has even 20 % Espana in her blood I'll apologize. Source: about 3 years ago
