I don’t know how to begin to build up a community of this size there, but I think Lemmy could be a promising alternative to Reddit. I’ve found Mastodon to be an enriching experience compared to Twitter and especially as a platform where third party clients have flourished. Would it be possible to circumvent the third-party apps API and make your app basically act as a browser that just opens the Reddit website, then modify the loaded web content within your app, similar to a Chrome extension that improves Reddit on desktop e.g. "redditenhancementsuite.com".

You can use the website, on mobile or desktop. It works fine. I don't get why people think that if they can't use some 3rd party app to access Reddit they'll ... I dunno, browse the archives at gcc.gnu.org or something. There is nothing else like Reddit.

FlingUp

I saw this coming years ago. Reddit will keep pushing ads as hard as they possibly can, and having 3rd party apps access their API simply doesn't work. I'm working on building a reddit alternative, https://flingup.com from scratch which will feature an open API for all to use as they please.
