TextExpander

TextExpander: it’s been the reference for a while. Solid feature set and nice UI, but I find the expansion speed lackluster (I use hundreds of snippets for long transcriptions and need it to be quick - speed doesn’t really matter if you only need expansion infrequently. Another negative for many people is that TextExpanders requires a subscription.

Snippety

Snippety: I just discovered Snippety recently. It’s also primarily aimed at programmers, but the feature set is a bit larger than Dash’s though it’s still missing some critical features for my needs at this point (delimiters, auto capitalization and CSV importing). That said, the dev responds to feeedback and seems willing to consider and add features. I hope so because the UI is slick and modern, ne text expansion fast.

Dash: Slick UI and fairly fast expansion, but mainly aimed at programmers. Limited feature set, but again that might be enough for you.

TypeIt4Me

Typeit4me: the original text expander for macOS. The feature set is the best I’ve found for my needs and text expansion is very fast. The UI is a bit long in the tooth, but version 3 with an updated UI is in the works. Also, customer service is great. It’s a family business and inquiries are answered quickly and comprehensively.
