Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about AirVisual and what they use it for.
  • AQHI โ€“ the superior AQI. Tracked only in Canada and Hong Kong. But you can calculate it yourself
Iqair.com has this info. If you want to track IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) the same way โ€“ PM2.5 can be tracked cheaply and reliably, but I assume not the rest. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Alternatives to Chiang Mai
I would advise heading South anywhere around Phuket should be better. Consult iqair.com for live updates on burning season and air index. https://www.msn.com/en-xl/news/other/chiang-mai-air-still-the-worst/ar-AA19iwO4. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Air Quality data over Joplin/Carthage
On the other hand, if you use Weather.com's data they report it's only a perfectly fine "27" which is "good"-- and iqair.com says it's also fine. Ditto airnow.gov-- nothing unusual to report. Source: almost 4 years ago
  • What stinks downtown today?
Iqair.com says the downtown air quality index is 112 which is on the high side. Source: over 4 years ago
  • Not so purple anymore: Just a heads' up, Air is Hazardous (301 and up per purpleair chart), for everyone in the area right now.
The best site for air quality I've found so far is iqair.com. They seem to update fast and are the most accurate I've seen, including the ugly numbers in the 300s, in line with it looking particularly bad outside, as of this writing. They also show wind currents, and you can click on the side options to show or remove particular map-markers. Source: almost 5 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of AirVisual

Public Opinion on AirVisual

AirVisual, a product by IQAir, has carved out a niche in the category of health and fitness technology, specifically among weather applications, due to its comprehensive and globally accessible air quality data. Within a competitive landscape featuring alternatives like Flow by Plume Labs, AWAIR, and AirQuality & Weather Chat, AirVisual consistently stands out for its extensive reach and innovative features.

Strengths Highlighted by Users

A prominent aspect that users appreciate about AirVisual is its capability to provide detailed information on pollutants and the air quality index (AQI) for over 10,000 locations in more than 100 countries. This extensive data coverage positions it advantageously for individuals and entities prioritizing global air quality insights. Users can interact with this data visually through both 2D color-coded maps and an immersive 3D Google Earth-like version, a feature highlighted in publications like the "Best Weather Apps for 2023" article. The availability of 7-day forecasts enhances its usability, allowing users to plan outdoor activities with foresight into air quality conditions.

The app's integration capabilities further strengthen its offering. For instance, it can sync with IQAir's indoor air quality monitors, facilitating real-time mobile readings of household air quality. This cross-platform synergy is a significant advantage, particularly for users who prioritize both outdoor and indoor air quality monitoring.

Limitations and User Feedback

Despite its strengths, user feedback also highlights some areas for improvement. While AirVisual provides comprehensive tracking of certain air quality metrics such as PM2.5, some users feel it lacks the same depth in tracking other IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) metrics. Furthermore, while Canadian and Hong Kong-specific AQHI (Air Quality Health Index) information can be convoluted to track due to limited availability, resources on iqair.com are not perceived as entirely exhaustive in this domain.

Comparisons and Competitors

In comparative mentions, AirVisual is frequently seen alongside competitors like AirCare and Climate Finder. Users who need fast updates commend AirVisual for its rapid and reliable data refreshes, particularly in dynamic air quality scenarios, as mentioned in community discussions about alarming air quality indices. Its provision of wind currents and customizable map markers strengthens its position as a versatile tool for both individual users and professionals needing detailed environmental data.

Conclusion

Overall, public opinion reflects a favorable view of AirVisual, underpinned by its comprehensive global reach, visual data representation, and reliability in providing prompt and detailed air quality updates. Its integration with home devices offers added value for users keen on continuous air quality monitoring. While certain limitations exist, particularly regarding the depth of indoor air quality metrics, the app remains a robust choice within its product category.
