If you got the software anywhere else than activeworlds.com then you should not trust it, period. Real AW software frequently updates and installs patches to itself and some outside party may well be trying to utilize this for their own purposes and would be suspect. Source: over 1 year ago

Activeworlds ! This may be the first online 3D multi-user social virtual world, launched in 1995, eight years before Second Life which it shares quite a few things in common and was clearly a huge design influence on. Including vehicles, flight and water, player-built structures and object scripting. It was pretty mind-blowing to experience in the late 90's.
