(1) Zulip Chat - https://zulip.com/ - seems to be reasonably popular, but more people should know about it I’ve been using it for over 5 years now [1], and it’s as good as ever. It’s way faster than any other chat app I’ve used. It has a good UI and conversation model. It has a simple and functional API that lets me curl threads and write blog posts based on them. (only problem is that I Ctrl-+ in my browser to... - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
Yes, for example WordPress [1], so I think the push for this feature is good. But also will be good a push to move those communities to a self hosted open source products like Zulip [2], Element [3] or Rocket Chat [4]. A few more truly in the vibe of open source projects not advertising their hosting providers: https://plane.so/ , https://element.io/ , https://www.loomio.com/ , https://zulip.com/ , and it keeps going... Very few open source projects, in the FOSS sense, are advertising their hosting provider. Source: 11 months ago
I was so excited to see this happen! I'm not a customer of yours, but your blog posts inspired me a lot. Your journey through quitting caffeine is a great and heartening read. I've got two things to say; 1) Will you consider source-availabling the web portal (app.keygen.sh) too? Some enterprises could use it for easy management/support for custoner's licenses. Although now that I think about it, it could also... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago

Anyways, I'm an internet stranger, not a social media expert. So let me know what you all think. And if we make a discord or zulip or something to make this a reality, let me know and I'd love to help any way I can. Source: 12 months ago

If more FOSS projects start using an alternative (matrix, for example), more users will be hesitant to use discord. I have more reasons, like Discord community usually end up in less meaningful discussion and have significantly less searchability than a form has -- but they are not really a big problem in a closed community. Check out https://zulip.com , it is pretty feature rich and allows stuff like LDAPS authentication for free, unlike Mattermost. Source: over 1 year ago

But yeah, it definitely took a closer look at what was lost from forum software and tried to bring that back to social media. Kinda similar to how Zulip is "slack chat but with forum threads" (surprisingly that small change makes it soo much nicer to keep track of discussions. It's a million times more intuitive to navigate than either Slack or Discord imo). Source: over 1 year ago

If you like the structure of Slack and are considering a switch, I'd love to see people switch to Zulip[0]. I've always wanted to see how well a team/org likes it after a serious trial. They have self-hosting options, too. 0: https://zulip.com. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
One of the best solutions is missing in my Opinion: Zulip (https://zulip.com/). It has a very cool Threading model to not clutter up conversations and keep them organized, is well documented and installation is very straightforward. Source: over 1 year ago

Did you look at zulip? https://zulip.com/ I'm not convinced it's better than irc+proper mailing lists - but given that real users are stuck in awful mail clients (like web/Gmail or outlook) - mailing lists isn't a great option any more. Main thing I miss from zulip is a proper weechat plug-in (like wee-slack) - although the official cli client isn't terrible - it's just not irc-like. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
