I use Zoomit and then take a snip of what I draw with that. Useful for making a quick instructional screenshot. Source: over 2 years ago

  • Its 2022 and you still cant resize the kontakt players window. what the hell
On Windows you can use the built-in magnifier program to zoom into the screen or use ZoomIt. I constantly zoom in and out for plugins. Or if you have the space, get a second 1080p monitor and drag windows into it when you want them to be bigger. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Question about using dual monitors with windows magnifier
Not with Magnifier, but you can use ZoomItt in live mode to zoom in a single monitor. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Draw on your screen without a toolbar or your stuff being erased when you stop drawing
ZoomIt is close to what I'm looking for, and everything you do with ZoomIt is done with hotkeys that are interchangeable. However, the way it works is it takes a screenshot of the screen, and then you draw on that, so if you stop drawing you can't actually navigate anywhere without exiting out of your drawing. (I want the drawing to stay on the screen when I am done drawing). Source: almost 3 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of ZoomIt

Public Opinion on ZoomIt

ZoomIt, a utility developed by Microsoft Sysinternals, has garnered a mixed yet generally positive reception within the domain of screen annotation and presentation tools. It finds its niche primarily among users seeking a straightforward solution for screen magnification and annotation, especially in scenarios involving presentations or instructional content. Below is an analysis of public sentiment and reviews based on recent discussions.

Ease of Use and Functionality

ZoomIt is frequently praised for its simplicity and ease of use. Users appreciate its intuitive operation via hotkeys, which makes on-the-fly annotations and magnifications seamless, a feature especially useful during live presentations or when giving quick tutorials. The seamless transition between drawing and navigating modes by using hotkeys is highlighted by many as a significant advantage. However, some users find the necessity to exit the drawing mode to navigate limiting since the annotations do not remain persistent on the screen.

Feature Set

Comparisons between ZoomIt and competitors like Epic Pen provide valuable insight into its feature set. While Epic Pen offers a wider array of drawing options such as shapes, text, and a whiteboard feature in its paid version, ZoomIt remains popular due to its unique zoom and break features. These offerings cater particularly well to users needing to combine screen magnification with annotation quickly. Users find value in using ZoomIt for specific functions like taking screenshots or highlighting screen elements efficiently, which complements other software like the Snipping Tool in Windows 11.

Product Comparisons and Alternatives

ZoomIt is frequently mentioned alongside other digital drawing and annotation tools such as Epic Pen, Magnifixer, and gInk. While alternatives like Epic Pen provide a richer set of annotation features at a cost, ZoomIt remains a favorite for those whose primary need is screen magnification combined with basic annotation tools. The lack of a comprehensive toolbar and persistence in annotations when exiting drawing mode, however, seems to be a notable limitation as discussed by some users seeking more from desktop annotation capabilities.

Utility in Unique Use Cases

A diverse range of users including gamers, educators, and technical presenters leverage ZoomIt for its specific features. For instance, within the gaming community, its magnification and annotation abilities are useful for replay analysis. Educators and presenters appreciate its ability to enhance instructional content by actively engaging with the visual elements on-screen.

Conclusion

While ZoomIt does not offer the broadest spectrum of annotation features compared to some of its competitors, it stands out for its reliability and focus on core functionalities: screen magnification and basic drawing capabilities via a straightforward interface. Its appeal remains strong among those who prioritize quick access and simplicity over feature richness. In essence, ZoomIt serves as a valuable, lightweight tool for users seeking to amplify their presentations or demonstrations effectively, despite some limitations in its annotation persistence and feature depth.
