I have used Xojo before and it is great. It is REALbasic rebranded and has been around for three decades. I used it years ago to write a LIMS interface (pre-Web 2.0). You can download the IDE and use it for free for Linux and Raspberry Pi projects. https://xojo.com. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago

I really recommend Xojo[1] (formally RealBasic). Itโs like a modern VB6 but runs on macOS, Windows and many flavours of Linux. It has very polished drag and drop UI editor. Iโve been developing with it for over 20 years and my 10 year old daughter is now learning programming with it. You can create and debug apps for free and only need a license to deploy an app as a binary so itโs ideal to learn with. Heck, it... - Source: Hacker News / over 3 years ago

The IDE allows instant testing, which streamlines the development cycle, enabling immediate verification and iteration of features before final deployment across multiple platforms. This is complemented by its proprietary programming language, which provides a modernized approach akin to Visual Basic but tailored to contemporary development needs.
Public opinion highlights Xojo as a spiritual successor to legacy systems like VB6, resonating particularly well with developers who have an affinity for such classic frameworks. Community discussions often reference its utility in building cross-platform applications, emphasizing its robustness and versatility for a wide range of development projects, from small personal applications to large-scale enterprise solutions.
The vibrant user community often portrays Xojo as a solution that not only simplifies application development but also provides a comprehensive feature set that aligns well with modern development practices. Notably, its cost-effective deployment model, which allows free creation and debugging of applications with licensing required only for binary deployment, is lauded as an ideal setup for both learners and enterprises.
Within the competitive landscape of development tools, Xojo distinguishes itself by balancing ease-of-use with comprehensive functionality. It stands out among competitors like PureBasic, B4X, FreeBASIC, and others by offering an all-in-one solution that appeals to both newcomers and veteran developers transitioning from traditional IDEs.
Analyses from various technical blogs and forums convey Xojo as a preferred choice for individuals who value a single, unified tool to master multiple facets of application development.
