My initial reaction to your post was to suggest the dispersed camping in National forests because it’s free and you don’t have to worry about getting in trouble, but there are bear concerns which is a different kind of trouble unless you deal with it right. Its going to be tough allready hostel prices for a month and two people in a place like Thailand will be 500 dollars, on an average of 9 dollars a night in Thailand. But I did travel for 2 years around the United States and Canada with just 200 dollars per month. But I mostly hitchhiked, couchsurfing and volunteered for food and accommodation....   There is this organisation Wwoof, a network where you can work/help on organic farms, that often are located off-grid, spread all over the world, that gives a great insight of the things that are necessary and need to be done in daily life in such places.
