For a real 'ease them into it' experience, there's written realms, which has a lovely modern UI. However, I did find that once you get past the tutorial it's a little confusing/sparse. Written Realms has a great playable experience in-browser, even on a phone. I'm not sure if there are others with a similar mobile-friendly web client. Written Realms has a relatively low level cap and isn’t very grindy at all. We’ve gotten requests to bump up the level cap but want to make sure the game stays accessible and that PvP remains somewhat reasonable even if you’re a newer character. Source: about 2 years ago

Feel free to check out Written Realms! We’ve put a lot of focus on making engaging combat without too much of a grind and would love to get some more players involved to explore more endgame PvE/PvP if you find it to your liking. Source: over 2 years ago
Welcome! I’m one of the builders at Written Realms and it might fit what you’re looking for as a relatively accessible MUD. The gameplay should be fairly familiar coming from contemporary MMOs and we’d love to hear any feedback you may have! Source: over 2 years ago
