  • M* that are easy to navigate and play, but are rich with features?
For a real 'ease them into it' experience, there's written realms, which has a lovely modern UI. However, I did find that once you get past the tutorial it's a little confusing/sparse. Similar goes for Genesis - beautifully remade tutorial, great ascii map etc. Extremely old, so a lot of detail, but also a bit overwhelmingly huge and sprawling once you're out there. I would describe both as easy to navigate. Source: about 1 year ago
  • So ... if you were to create a MUD these days from scratch, and you had, say, 10 solid programmers working with you for one full year, what features would you first focus on and why?
Https://writtenrealms.com/ is an attempt at just that, but I personally feel their interface could use some improvements - playing through sub menus suck, and it still require text input for some basic actions in-between, which makes it cumbersome on mobile as it tries to blend both menu gameplay and typing gameplay. It is also very slow to navigate menus and battles etc. The game also runs on community generated... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Old Text Based Games
If you want to make your own text based game, to begin, use some sort of website tool such as https://writtenrealms.com/. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Any search filters you would like to see MUDstats include?
Written Realms has a great playable experience in-browser, even on a phone. I'm not sure if there are others with a similar mobile-friendly web client. Having a client-free mobile experience like that is a long term goal of mine for the mud I'm working on, but it is tough on a 25 year old codebase that was designed for telnet. :). • Are there any good beginner Text based mmos?
Sounds like you might like Written Realms! We tried to streamline the experience a bit to make it more accessible for those new to the genre. Let us know what you think! Source: almost 2 years ago
  • What is the best looking MUD?
I would check out Written Realms: https://writtenrealms.com/. Source: about 2 years ago
  • MUDs which are not grindy?
Written Realms has a relatively low level cap and isn’t very grindy at all. We’ve gotten requests to bump up the level cap but want to make sure the game stays accessible and that PvP remains somewhat reasonable even if you’re a newer character. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Best relatively new MUD for an inexperienced player?
Sounds like you might like Written Realms! We’re just now getting to a consistent online player count so there isn’t a long history to catch up on and always open to feedback from more people about what to build next. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Combat oriented MUDs?
Feel free to check out Written Realms! We’ve put a lot of focus on making engaging combat without too much of a grind and would love to get some more players involved to explore more endgame PvE/PvP if you find it to your liking. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Recommendations?
Welcome! I’m one of the builders at Written Realms and it might fit what you’re looking for as a relatively accessible MUD. The gameplay should be fairly familiar coming from contemporary MMOs and we’d love to hear any feedback you may have! Source: over 2 years ago
  • a mmo like syrnia or initium?
I remember dabbling with inititium; it almost seemed more like a web-based mud. I tried a few minutes of this, https://writtenrealms.com/, and thought it had potential. Source: over 2 years ago
  • MUX/MUSH Questions
Https://writtenrealms.com is a nice blend of old school and new. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Any MUDS that work well on mobile?
Feel free to give Written Realms a try! It’s tough to pack all the necessary information on the smaller screen, but we put a good amount of work into making it as usable as possible. Source: over 2 years ago
