  • Question regarding interlibrary loans
If you're in the US, you can look up the book in Worldcat (https://search.worldcat.org/) to get a sense of what libraries actually hold the books you are looking for. When US libraries are doing ILL, they are often using a backend system that is working with the information in that catalog. Source: over 2 years ago
  • How to Find Children's Books in Foreign Languages?
Also check out worldcat.org . Type in a title, look for 'View All Formats and Editions' in the lower right of a listing. You can see if the book is offered in your choice of language or format. Your future, my faith, our freedom: A democratic blueprint for Singapore by Chee Soon Juan. This book was published around 2000 and talks about the many issues with CPF, public housing, the overdependence on MNC in our economy, foreign talent, Singapore education, etc. It is hard to get hold of this book because it has been out of print for many years but you can find it in the NUS library. I'm looking for recommendations for manga that I can theoretically get from public libraries. I like a book in my hands, but I'm also cheap. If it's on worldcat.org, it's good. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Iโ€™m looking for a digital copy of a book series and figured this would be a great place to ask. (Ohio based)
I tried to do a quick search in Worldcat which is how libraries see if other libraries in the US have the book. For some reason, the Pendragon series is a hot mess in there. There are tons of results for the same book and each of those listings only has a few results. Maybe that's what your mom was seeing? I had to go through 10 listings for book 2 before I found the 'real' listing (basically a copy with more than... Source: over 3 years ago
  • [TOMT] [Book] I'm looking for a hardback book of short stories by various authors from the late 1980s/early 1990s. I want to call it 'Fairy Tales for Grownups' but that title search has brought nothing useful.

  • How do you figure out if your idea has been done before? I don't consume much media so I'm concerned.
It has been done, but if you'd like comps, an advanced keyword/subject search from your local library or even worldcat.org should give you a list of similar books. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Are there any good resources for getting physical copies of socialist books?
There's a website called WorldCat that is a catalog of a lot of public libraries and, it appears, just about all the institutional university and research libraries out there. You probably can find a library near you that carries the books you are looking for. Source: over 3 years ago

  • Finding a book
Try searching at https://worldcat.org/ & use the squiggles at the right for an Advanced Keyword Search. Include the word Juvenile (for a childrenโ€™s book.) If no result, call your public library & ask for the childrenโ€™s librarian. What youโ€™re looking for is a picture book. Source: over 3 years ago

  • Stuck behind a big paywall
Requiring a geographic distance is perfectly normal. This was my job at a library, ordering books through inter-library loan. Different libraries have different policies. Our main library was better funded and could access material from outside of the state. We were not as well funded and had to stick within certain geographic confines. This is one of the search engines we used- worldcat.org . Your library may not... Source: over 3 years ago
