* fulfil a personal user need that the existing alternatives (such as https://wordcounter.net/ or select-and-count on MS Word/Google Docs) didn't quite capture in the way I needed. If you're curious, my use case was writing an application that required an exact overall count, but split unequally among 4 sections. Comments, feedback, questions, feature requests, unlikely monetisation ideas โ all very welcome. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago

As big as a number that is, I know how easy it is to get past it... From personal experience. There are sites like this (Wordcounter.net) that let you count the words and characters. Some writing programs even have a built in ones, please keep track of it. I will be checking the numbers before I read each one. Source: almost 3 years ago

When I start writing a short story, I know from the beginning whether it's going to be a big or a small one. My small stories are usually around 500 - 600 words, that I then have to file down to 500. Big stories are like 700 - 900 words, much harder to compress, so I write them directly in wordcounter.net to begin with. Small stories I usually write in normal text editor, and then just transfer them to wordcounter... Source: about 3 years ago

First problem I'm gonna point out for you- you're missing your word-count down at the bottom of your story, which Bay will want you to have to get full marks for the story. According to wordcounter.net, you're at 543 right now. As I said, you've done remarkably well with your word economy. Source: over 3 years ago

If I'm writing a fic for a tumblr prompt, I typically write it in the tumblr post. Then I copy/paste it into wordcounter.net to see if I want to crosspost. (Given that I crosspost to both AO3 and FFN, and I have to come up with a title, the cost/benefit analysis makes me feel like it isn't worth it unless the fic is 500+ words.). You can still deconstruct what you review even if the person you're reviewing isn't allowing any ConCrit. If there are multiple parts of a story you love, you can write about them. Otherwise, if you are stuck, you can try typing out your reviews first in wordcounter.net before attaching them to the story. Source: over 3 years ago

These are my sins too, so I'll recommend hemingway app and wordcounter โ they're both free to use in the browser which is handy, although I went ahead and bought hemingway because I like to be able to work offline. You can even scale up the keyword density specs in wordcounter to catch overused phrases. Source: over 3 years ago
