  • Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA)
Android on the desktop works very well on Wayland with Waydroid and it even supports Google Play store. https://waydro.id/ Great running apps not available on Linux with a touchscreen PC. It only seems to run Android apps compiled for x86, but it is very fast. There are practical use cases, and it is very usable. I haven’t tried it on WSL2, but it seems like a practical approach without reliance on Microsoft. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago

  • Sxmo: Linux tiling window manager for phones
There's a piece of software called Waydroid[1] that allows you to run Android applications on GNU/Linux platforms - including the PinePhone. Sxmo, despite its name, can run Wayland instead of X and therefore supports Waydroid. Personally, I haven't managed to get Waydroid to work, a task hindered due to some massive initial downloads which are required to set it up. However, I haven't tried particular hard, and... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Google Play Android Self-Certification
I thought it was uncharacteristic of to see a service like this offered by a large tech company, and wanted to share. Found whilst installing Waydroid: https://waydro.id/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Can I view Waydroid on a different display on a VNC viewer?
I have setup an Arch linux server on my old pc. I mainly use it for plex, transmission, docker etc and it works pretty well! I wanted to install Waydroid https://waydro.id/ on that server. Is there a way that I can view waydroid using a VNC viewer on my laptop on the same network? Is it possible or would I have to install a GUI like xfce before installing waydroid to view the same on tigervnc or some other VNC... Source: 7 months ago
  • Run Firefox on ChromeOS
    > I run Fedora Linux after removing ChromeOS Same here. Sometimes, it crashes on a measly 4 GB of RAM. > (the only thing I'm missing is running Android apps) I would recommend using Waydroid[1]. It runs fairly well in my use case, and runs LineageOS on top of it with the full LineageOS GUI. [1]: https://waydro.id/. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • migration to wayland from x11? for waydroid
I am using KDE Neon (user edition) on two machines (thinkpad laptops with intel). On mentioned machines I would like to try and use waydroid: https://waydro.id/ Waydroid required wayland as display server (it will probably not work on x11). Source: 10 months ago
  • Session manager Anbox
Waydroid is rebuilding the original idea behind Anbox with explicit focus on modern Wayland powered desktop environments. Source: 11 months ago
  • Can WayDroid run on m1?
Hello! I'm trying to get running android apps in my Mac. I found a projet named "WayDroid" that is basically a container that runs android to run apps on Linux. And since MacOS has a terminal that's pretty similar to Linux's terminal I was wondering if it's possible to run WayDroid on M1 Macs, or if it's possible to "compile" it for M1. I mean, Android Studio has been ported to M1 and Android phones are ARM just... Source: 11 months ago
  • Android native emulator
Check Waydroid, games are kinda hit or miss from what I read from searching. And we'll, if you want to use a VM you can check out this video. Keep in mind that only the games that support X86 will work. Source: 11 months ago
  • A long-time Windows power user and game developer is looking for a switch to Linux.
And although I don't include it in the list above, I still want to mention blendOS: A kinda immutable Arch core (rolling-ish) and/but all the user stuff takes place in the containers (Arch, Ubuntu etc + Android via Waydroid), including the desktop environments themselves. So on paper it should mean a cutting edge core (minimal and automatically set up, so less chances of breakages) while offering a choice on... Source: 12 months ago

  • Help Center and Megathread Hub (01/05 - 07/05)
Does anyone here ever try and play Arknights in Waydroid? It's sort of like Android emulator but for Linux-based OS. I want to give this a try because my phone storage is 1GB left but looking at the setup is quite long and complicated. Source: about 1 year ago

  • PineTab-V and PineTab2 launch
Waydroid lets you run Android apps on Linux, which helps close the gap between these software ecosystems. https://waydro.id Since Android apps are mostly built for ARM, this is currently more of a benefit for the PineTab2 than the PineTab-V. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
