ViralMint is a self-hosted desktop app (AGPL-3.0) that runs the whole short-form workflow on your own machine: scout trending videos across YouTube, TikTok, Douyin, Reddit and Google Trends, clip long-form sources into shorts with local Whisper transcription, and generate AI originals โ script, voiceover, word-by-word captions and background music over stock footage. Bring your own API keys. No subscription, no watermark. The entire pipeline can be fully automated via MCP.
A startup from Erlangen, Germany that is founded by Toni Tang.

I built ViralMint in 2026 because I was running my own creator workflows manually and spending 8+ hours per video on tasks the machine should handle. Every existing tool either locked me into a subscription, missed half the pipeline, or hid everything behind a closed cloud I couldn't trust with my raw footage. I wanted something that scouted trends, downloaded competitors, transcribed locally, scored viral hooks, and assembled originals โ all in one pipeline I could audit and fork. AGPL-3.0 was deliberate: the source needs to stay available so anyone hosting a SaaS variant has to share their improvements back.
ViralMint is the only AI video tool I know of that exposes its entire pipeline as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server with 86 tools โ so Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP-aware agent can orchestrate the full scout โ download โ transcribe โ script โ generate โ export workflow from a single natural-language prompt. On top of that it's open source under AGPL-3.0, runs heavy processing locally (faster-whisper transcription, FFmpeg compositing), and uses prepaid USD credits instead of a monthly subscription.
Three concrete reasons: (1) No subscription โ you pay a few cents per AI action against a prepaid USD balance, with a free daily allowance, so you never pay for unused capacity. (2) Multi-model video generation built in (Sora 2 Pro, Veo 3.1, Seedance, Wan, Hailuo) instead of being locked to one model behind extra topups. (3) Local Whisper transcription with word-level timestamps runs unlimited on your own machine โ no per- minute caps, no audio leaving your computer. Plus the whole codebase is open source, so you're never locked in.
Backend: Python 3.11 with FastAPI, SQLite (WAL mode), faster-whisper for transcription, FFmpeg for video compositing, yt-dlp for downloads from 1,000+ sites, FastMCP for the MCP server. Cloud: TypeScript on AWS Lambda + DynamoDB + S3, Serverless Framework, Stripe for billing, OpenRouter as the single AI gateway (Sora 2 Pro / Veo 3.1 / Seedance / Wan / Hailuo / Whisper / Nano Banana / Lyria). Frontend: React 18, Vite, MUI 7, Zustand. Marketing site: Astro static SSG with React islands. Desktop packaging: PyInstaller + pystray (tray launcher, system browser as UI, not Electron).
Two overlapping audiences. The first is short-form video creators who run faceless YouTube and TikTok channels and want to automate the repetitive parts of the pipeline โ trend scouting, competitor analysis, script generation, clip extraction, captions, multi-aspect export. The second is developers and power users who use AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor and want to drive a real desktop application through agentic prompts. The two surfaces โ desktop app and MCP server โ are the same product viewed from different angles.
We're in early growth and don't yet feature named customers publicly โ most users are independent short-form creators running faceless YouTube and TikTok channels. Named customer spotlights are planned as we ship case studies.
