1. SSH to VPS/homelab server using Termius[1] 2. On jailbroken iPads, UTM[2] VM running x86 linux should run great 3. iSH[3], it was quite sloppy for me, YMMV. [1]: https://termius.com/ [3]: https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/ish-shell/id1436902243. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
I have that Magic Keyboard and would love to have the option to run real Linux via https://getutm.app/. The iPad is fully capable of this, but it is a pain because you have to jailbreak it. Ugh. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
Did anyone try this https://getutm.app, is it possible to install it on a non-jailbroken iPad Pro M2? - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
UTM makes it easy to set up and manage macOS and Windows virtual machines. This can be especially useful for developers such as Tauri contributors who need to test their applications across multiple platforms, or for those looking to experiment with different operating systems without affecting their primary system. - Source: dev.to / about 1 year ago
Is anyone using UTM for programming on an iPad?[1] I was surprised to see in the demos that it appears to perform quite well, considering there's no hardware virtualization support. [1]: https://getutm.app/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
You could run windows in a VM and play RoN: https://getutm.app/. Source: over 1 year ago
There’s UTM, you’ll have to side load it though https://getutm.app. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
And those who actually are advanced users will be able to install something like https://getutm.app/ and run Linux desktop in a virtual machine on iPadOS without jailbreaking and transform it into an actual laptop :). Source: over 1 year ago
For the last: UTM + JIT. Unfortunately it’s not on the AppStore, but those utilities will allow you to run any operating system (that doesn’t mean they’ll be useable). I use Debian ARM64 (with LXQt environment) on my iPad mini (A12) which runs fast enough to handle sublime text and one terminal window (but not a web browser ;_;). Some software won’t run on it like PSEint (unless you figure out how to compile it),... Source: over 1 year ago
Separate but maybe related question--I downloaded the UTM install from getutm.app. Is the install easier if I buy it from the Mac App Store? It's only $10 so I'm happy to buy it. I just wanted to try it first. Source: over 1 year ago
Another option is to have a windows VM - look at UTM (https://getutm.app/), plenty of install guides to get you up and running. My son has had good success running some odd CS apps this way. Source: over 1 year ago
If you're using an iPad you could try UTM. UTM is a virtual machine that can run Windows and Linux operating systems. Check the Install page to see if yours is supported. An external mouse and keyboard would be highly recommended to complete the "desktop" experience. Source: over 1 year ago
That's true. And honestly, I might even consider buying a high-end iPad if it shipped with an app like UTM so I could run a Linux VM. That alone would cover so many of the current pain points. Source: over 1 year ago
Https://getutm.app - full qemu based virtual machine. Has few variants that differ with performance depending on if you’re jailbroken, have jit support enabled or hypervisor available… You can run whole Linux VM and even Win10/11. Source: almost 2 years ago
Does anyone have experience running Homebridge on a VM on an iPhone? I'm thinking something like https://getutm.app/ to host either a Linux (lightweight) or MacOS on an old iPhone I have. My preference would be to do a Raspberry Pi but as I'm sure everyone knows they are expensive and hard to get at the moment. Source: almost 2 years ago
I don't have any iOS devices but I would start here Https://getutm.app/. Source: almost 2 years ago
Yes. https://getutm.app there are 2 versions, UTM which needs jit and UTM SE which doesn’t need jit, but is slower. Source: almost 2 years ago
If they would just allow UTM to run, that would be good enough for me. https://getutm.app/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
Pretty sure you can emulate and virtualize Linux, Windows and etc on an iPad using UTM without jailbreak: https://getutm.app. Source: almost 2 years ago
Use the normal version and install it with TrollStore https://getutm.app. Source: almost 2 years ago
UTM (for vms), retroarch (game console emulation), PojavLauncher (Minecraft Java), cocoatop64 (task manager), filza (file manager) and uYou+ (YouTube with tweaks). Source: about 2 years ago
