I just wanted to say, for anyone reading this far: this is the sort of thing you can hire a programmer to whip up for you to carry around on your phone. u/dark_rug just up and did it, but for anybody else finding themselves with a little spreadsheet to do calculations that they want to work on their phone or in the browser, you can go to a service like upwork.com and put out a request for bids from contract... Yes, it's damn hard. I had to accept all kinds of strange works advertised on freelancer.com and upwork.com (both shitty platforms that treat their user base as particular cattle) until I met people that I could do business with. Source: about 3 years ago
The buyer is suggesting we do a fixed contract on upwork.com, but I dont really trust that process... Source: about 3 years ago

If you're not hurting for money yet, you could always try on upwork.com and see if you can hustle up a decent freelance gig(good pay if you don't mind doing your own taxes/no holidays/no kiwisaver). Source: about 3 years ago
If I could not mow lawns or carry wood but could use a computer, but had no skills, I'd look into Amazon Mechanical turk. Once I had earned $100 I'd make a linkedin and say my job was "freelance human powered automation." Then I'd google search some communities about freelance remote work, then I'd create an upwork.com account and look for higher paying work of the same type. Also, mechanical turk may have... Freelancing. Go to upwork.com and other freelancing sites and trawl Craigslist and other freelance gig boards for work opportunities. Apply to everything you can think of that you can possibly do remotely. This might be one of those things where you have to create your own job rather than apply for existing ones. I'm at a point (with my 9+ jobs) where I have two assistants (one for work, the other for more casual stuff) 5 sub-assistants, and 15 sub-sub assistants. Each assistant has been trained to do everything and anything at a moment's notice. If my mom dies, they know not to disturb me but instead to buy a coffin. They are good assistants, I recommend upwork.com all the time :). Source: about 3 years ago
**The Online Marketplace: **Online platforms and marketplaces have played a pivotal role in the success of selling digital gigs. You could become a gig tech at a site like upwork.com until something more permanent comes along. Source: about 3 years ago
Based on the most recent discussions surrounding Upwork, it remains one of the preeminent freelance marketplaces in the digital ecosystem. Having emerged from the merger of oDesk and Elance, Upwork has established itself as a global titan with millions of freelancers and contractors across various sectors such as tech, writing, marketing, and design. This broad reach positions Upwork as a valuable resource for businesses and individuals seeking specialized skills to meet specific project needs.
Strengths: Upwork is praised for its vast and diversified job categories. Whether an enterprise is seeking web development, virtual assistance, or graphic design, Upwork hosts a myriad of options, which makes it appealing to a wide range of businesses with distinct project requirements. The platformโs reputation system is also frequently highlighted, allowing employers to vet potential freelancers based on past client reviews and ratings, thereby facilitating a more informed hiring decision-making process. Furthermore, Upwork's security features, like the monitoring of hourly contracts through random screenshots, bolster its credibility and reliability, ensuring clients receive exactly what they pay for.
Drawbacks: Despite its comprehensive offerings, Upwork is not without criticism. The platform incurs a conversion fee (approximately 12% of the freelancerโs annual earnings) when attempting to transition interactions off the platform, which some users claim cuts significantly into their earnings. Additionally, competing platforms argue that Upwork's hiring process could be less effective, nudging some businesses to explore more streamlined alternatives. Concerns about scams and the difficulties of securing projects have also been voiced, especially by new or less established freelancers navigating the marketplace.
Comparison with Competitors: Competitors such as Fiverr, Toptal, and Freelancer.com frequently position themselves as robust alternatives, each with unique features that cater to different freelancer and client needs. For instance, Fiverr emphasizes affordability with gigs starting from a low base cost, while Toptal promises high-caliber talent by operating a more selective vetting process. Twine stands out as a cost-effective alternative, offering free job postings and a focus on quality and collaboration, which might appeal to businesses deterred by Upworkโs fees.
Community Insights: In various forums, users share a spectrum of experiences, from thriving on high-earning projects to grappling with the disappointments of unaccepted proposals or potential scams. Though Upwork is depicted as a valuable launchpad for beginners and seasoned professionals alike, the journey to securing work can be challenging and requires perseverance. The flexibility and broad exposure offered by Upwork remain unmatched for those willing to navigate the initial hurdles.
In conclusion, while Upwork is a robust and comprehensive platform, its fee structures and market competition suggest it may not be the best fit for everyone. Its strengths lie in its wide-ranging talent pool and reliable systems, but freelancers are advised to weigh the platform's costs against the benefits to determine their most strategic career and business decisions.
