Ulysses - Price: $5.99/month or $49.99/year (subscription) Writing app for Mac, iPad, and iPhone that offers a distraction-free writing environment and advanced features for writers. Source: 10 months ago
I just created a markdown/text file and wrote. You can open that anywhere. For example ulysses used to be my favorite before I realised I could used my code editor (any editor, they will always be free). Source: about 1 year ago
If you can appreciate quality apps, Ulysses would be the best one for such a thing. Source: about 1 year ago
Software like Scrivener, Ulysses and Obsidian is based around this notion of interacting with multiple documents with little friction through a sidebar file directory. Scrivener and Ulysses in particular are for section-segmented writing that you can compile into a single document when you are finished. Source: about 1 year ago
Lots of great options given here, but I’m gonna add another: Ulysses. It’s a cloud-sync writing app you can use across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. It’s minimalist enough to not be overwhelming like scrivener, but substantial enough to provide tons of organization options. It’s the best writing software I’ve found to dive into first drafts, as well as polish complete ones. Source: over 1 year ago
For Mac, https://ulysses.app/ looks nice. I use it for writing blog posts. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Ulysses, iA Writer, and Bear support tags. You can just type and search for it in other apps. Source: over 1 year ago
Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for. Personally, I hate editors like that. I'm going for in-editor live preview, like you see in, say, Bear and Ulysses. Source: almost 2 years ago
I’m very much human and also don’t quite know how to format HN posts very well. Ulysses: https://ulysses.app/ It’s been a great place to write, rock solid sync and it formats code samples the best out of the software I’ve tried. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
Ulysses is a great minimal writing app that syncs with Wordpress as well as some other blogging services. One can directly post to Wordpress via this app, plus you can modify these published articles from the app as well. This is particularly useful for huge sites with lots of written content. Ulysses ($5.99 per month or $49.99 per year): an elegant yet highly capable text editor with support for a subset of the Markdown syntax. Source: about 2 years ago
If you use macOS then you could use Ulysses which supports markdown and I hear has a nicer .pdf render than Obsidian. Source: over 2 years ago
I settled with Ulysses https://ulysses.app. Source: over 2 years ago
As a writing app, consider Ulysses (https://ulysses.app/) as well. I like it better than Scrivener. Source: over 2 years ago
I owned Scrivener on my old 2011 iMac. I loved it, and it did everything it said, but I got bogged down in the OCD of organizing, so I tried minimalist editors like Ulysses[1] and WriteMonkey[2]. Even timeline, video-editing-esque editor like Causality[3]. I had used Celtx[4] many moons ago with a subscription to collaborate with others. All have their strengths and they are all good depending on what it is you're... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
Do you have an example of something you like that you want to build something similar to? I really want to eventually build Ulysses app for the web. I have done a similar thing I'm on version 2 but extremely basic with mongo, react and express. Source: over 2 years ago
I use the Ulysses text editor to write all my posts. Converting them into Markdown files for my blog isn’t as easy as copy-pasting, especially when things like frontmatter and images are involved. - Source: dev.to / over 2 years ago
Ulysses is a class act and a class app. Flawlessly syncs between iOS and Mac, has extremely flexible and easy to configure themes (and an online theme library to download from and share to. Lots of options that a writer might or might not need, so you need to figure out what you need because the app is a relatively pricey subscription. Source: over 2 years ago
I love Bear. The only other writing experience I've had that rivaled it was Ulysses. It's an absolute joy to use to author content with markdown. - Source: dev.to / almost 3 years ago
You can change the page background, but there are other options if you’re looking for something more writing-focused. I like ia Writer and Bear. Ulysses is good too, but it has an annoying subscription model. Source: almost 3 years ago
If you need reliable syncing, a lot of editors or services will handle it for you. Inkdrop, Ulysses, Bear, and other offer a built in sync. But, it means you're locked into their platform, and if they abandon it, there's a chance you lose your data. Some can sync Markdown and Images/Media. Source: about 3 years ago
